Same here. 300w with 12 disks, switches, and router. But electricity only costs $.12/kwh. I wouldn’t trust having terabytes of data in the cloud.

TBF he is still an exec. Just not an insurance exec.

Wendell Potter, a former vice president for corporate communications at Cigna, is the president of the Center for Health and Democracy and writes the newsletter “Health Care Un-Covered.”

The Center for Health and Democracy(CHD) is a non-profit organization led by renowned healthcare expert and insurance industry whistleblower Wendell Potter that works to transform America’s system of health coverage. The organization’s core belief is that healthcare should be driven not by industry profits and greed, but by the needs and rights of every American to get the quality care they need without concern for cost.

One story that we couldn’t keep out of the press and that contributed most to my decision to walk away from my career in 2008 involved Nataline Sarkisyan, a 17-year-old leukemia patient in California whose scheduled liver transplant was postponed at the last minute when Cigna told her surgeons it wouldn’t pay. Cigna’s medical director, 2,500 miles away from Ms. Sarkisyan, said she was too sick for the procedure. Her family stirred up so much media attention that Cigna relented, but it was too late. She died a few hours after Cigna’s change of heart.

Ms. Sarkisyan’s death affected me personally and deeply. As a father, I couldn’t imagine the depth of despair her parents were facing. I turned in my notice a few weeks later. I could not in good conscience continue being a spokesman for an industry that was making it increasingly difficult for Americans to get often lifesaving care.

One of my last acts before resigning was helping to plan a meeting for investors and Wall Street financial analysts — similar to the one that UnitedHealthcare canceled after Mr. Thompson’s horrific killing. These annual investor days, like the consumerism idea I helped spread, reveal an uncomfortable truth about our health insurance system: that shareholders, not patient outcomes, tend to drive decisions at for-profit health insurance companies.

Dude is a machine. Even so, it hurts to have to wait. Trying to find my next series to read and it had to be completed. Currently reading Empire of Silence but it still has one book unreleased. Luckily it comes out next year.

Anyone got suggestions?

Tbf, all the well written shows of the last decade only made 10-13 episodes per season. This was one of the major reasons for the writers strike since they only got paid per episode.

Damn! I also only use an ebook and thought about buying this book in print to read instead. That just looks like it would be unwieldy to hold when reading. I would have turned around and bought the ebook.

Since you are there you might as well try some Chanpuru. It is a stir fry dish with Goya but it can be a bit strange for first timers. Not sure on what’s there anymore, been 15 years. Yoshihatchi is probably still there, pretty good sushi joint.

I also recommend that you hit up Peace Memorial Park if you can make it down to the south side of the island. Can’t remember if the tunnels are near that but those are interesting as well.

I almost did the same thing. Kindle decided to pop up that it was the end of the book right as the postlude chapter started.

With you there on that. Luckily we do have Mistborn third arc in the next few years. But I can already see what the sixth book will be…

Tap for spoilerWhile book will be about everyone but Kaladin, then the epilogue will be the Herald’s return.

Agreed. I still can’t believe that he doesn’t plan to release the next archive book until 2031. Long time to wait.

How you like the book so far?

Hey, I would want to know if a pill is gonna make my taint tear.

Thanks! So then the judgement is two fold. First to split chrome from google. Second to restrict google from paying to be the default search engine on any browser.

Really enjoyed last years. Can’t wait to see how this one goes!

For anyone unfamiliar with TGP, it is like NFL Redzone but for WoW.

Well that's depressing

I just got a large batch of water leak sensors and was setting an automation to send a notification to my phone and I was worried that I would miss the notification. I found this page in the documentation for doing critical alerts. On iOS the notification stays persistent, even after unlocking the device. What’s really nice is that if you have an Apple Watch, the notification will also show up there and play a sound if the watch is on silent mode.

Even though I hope I never get one of these notifications, I’m really glad that this functionality exists within Home Assistant.

Just thought that was really neat.

Any way to swap the actions for tapping vs holding? To me it makes more sense for a tap to expand it and a long press to open the app. Searches popped up results from last year that it is not an option but did they add it to iOS 17?

So I’m finally upgrading to multi gig (either 2gb or 5gb google fiber) and will need a new router. On att 1gb atm. I’ve narrowed it down to either the QNAP QHora-301W or the [TP-Link AXE16000 (https://a.co/d/2q0T4Ow). Curious if anyone else with google fiber is using either of these?

Also, I’ve read conflicting posts about being able to use your own router to directly connect to the fiber(such as using an SFP module on the to link router). Admittedly I know very little about SFP and am trying to figure it all out prior to ordering in the next few weeks.

I initially made this to test out creating a bot for lemmy but after some digging I noticed there isn't a 'general' community for riddles so feel free to post some good(and bad) riddles. Maybe Catatafish can use them for the next traveler seeking passage through the esophagus.

Answer these riddles and the esophagus will let you pass.

Just a community to post riddles.

Created this to test out making a lemmy bot and thought it would be nice to share them. Fair warning, some can be straight trash.

So I'm having an issue where the two finger swipe to go back to the main inbox doesn't work when viewing an email. I can swipe forward from the inbox to go forward to the page that an email is on. This only occurs on Firefox. I tried both Chrome and Safari and both allow the gesture.

Any clues as to what can be causing that?
