Regardless which party people would normally support, I think that Mark Carney is generally seen as the right person in the right place and time for dealing with Trump.

A couple projects at the moment.

A 3D platformer/adventure, my "dream game", which I realized the scope exceeds my capabilities for now until I learn more. I'm taking some inspiration from games I've been playing like Cavern of Dreams and Pseudoregalia and will be simplifying it eventually to be closer to those. Here's a little demo video of the character hopping around a level and solving a puzzle

A 3D rogue-lite made from the bones of the project above. There is a drought threatening the faeries, so you have to go collect dew drops from dusk til dawn before they evaporate. It's basically kicking balls in a 3D space and plays kind of like a janky Rocket League. Sort of fun, at least!

A 3D platformer/FPS, sort of like Half-Life. This is my latest and is meant to help me solidify an understanding of game systems and how to keep it lean and simple. The shooting is janky though and I'm not sure I care to make proper enemies so it might get simplified further to just be little puzzles.

Glad to hear! They have a pretty big discography now, all worth checking out. Though I think my fave will always be the album Qliphoth.

You don't lose souls when you die, you drop them. You lose souls when you die a second time without picking them up.

Nirvana's version of The Man Who Sold the World.

Sounds like you are a couple steps ahead of where I'm trying to be. I don't need many amenities or anything, just some peace and fucking quiet. Outdoor space for a garden would be a dream come true.

Goblins will see you bring about world peace and say, "he's afraid to fall in battle"

The constant barrage of unfortunate events.

Went through a breakup while unemployed and was facing homelessness since my cost of living practically doubled instantly. The cats were hers and I miss them every day.

Got a new job and my car broke down and died on the first day of work.

Trying to move to somewhere affordable but I definitely need a car for where I'm looking to go. Found a car but it's 5-6 months wait time for the factory order, so I continue to pay insane rent by myself in the meantime, and look for a used car to maintain my good standing with the insurance company.

Got a brand new bed a few weeks ago. Yesterday noticed ants climbing all over the wall right next to it. Luckily they weren't in the bed but I had to move it to an inconvenient spot for peace of mind, and worry about more ants coming back. There's no food or anything even close to the bedroom.

Every time someone moves out of this apartment building the new people who move in have multiple dogs. There are more dogs than people living here. They're constantly barking and howling and setting each other off and nobody does anything about it. I can't escape the noise anywhere in my unit.

I just want to get out and start the rest of my life in a new place already.

Consider getting a line of credit to increase your buying power and in case you have repair costs in the future.

Absolutely get a set of winter tires, not just for safety in Canadian winters, but also because it should lower the cost of insurance. Do not skip the winter tires.

Hello. I'm at a point in my learning where I see potential to make a big mess and want some advice before that happens. Particularly, how to organize game systems like inventory, damage calculation, level variables (eg. locked doors -> remain unlocked even after the level scene is reloaded).

For Inventory (consumable items, weapons etc), what I've done so far that seems to work is create a global script called PlayerInventory, within it is a list of every item as a boolean variable to indicate if the player has it or not. So now when the player travels through different level scenes, their inventory is persistent and any upgrades remain. Seems to work so far.

But how would you go about doing this for a locked door in a level scene? One way is to tie it to a key, in the player inventory - if "key" == true, "locked" = false. Ok, fine. What about a wooden crate that has been destroyed by the player? How would you keep track of the crate's destroyed state without it being tied to a "key item" in the PlayerInventory global script? Is the solution to create more global scripts, like "EnvironmentChanges"? What script should be responsible for remembering this and where should it live?

With regards to a damage calculation system, I think the high level question is similar- how to organize this? The path I'm going down looks like, "DamageManager" global script which handles the calculations and updates, meanwhile the player and enemy scenes have an "HP" node added, with the "hp" value variable set by the parent (the player or that specific enemy).

I'm looking for high-level ideas about how to make these things work together and to keep it as easy to maintain and organized as possible. More details and specifics are welcome, too. Thanks

Context: I noticed I have some clothes from 10 years ago that are still good to wear, and some newer things I have barely worn yet. I wondered if I reached a point where all the clothes I own would be enough to last for the rest of my life. There is a dresser and a closet worth of things.

For the sake of this question, let's say you can't buy, borrow, steal, receive as a gift, find, or make anything new to wear. All you get is what you have now. Is it enough?

I have an extra key that came with the AGDQ Humble bundle. I love this game and would be happy to share with someone who will enjoy it.

If your Lemmy account is at least 1 month old, comment and tell me what about the game makes you want to play it.

I just think Kazakhstan is neat

Canada has implemented a new tax savings from December to February for some things like taxable groceries, crafts, and gaming physical media. I wanted to get a new Xbox controller and found the best price at Walmart for $55 a week ago. The tax holiday starts today and I now see that the $55 has increased to $62 and change, which is about how much tax I should be saving. Great to see this thinly veiled attempt to help Canadians ( /s - win votes) is just going to be extra profit in the corporations' pockets.
