occasionally (totally not for porn) I'll want to check in on Reddit without actually going back to that place. I have a separate account that's subscribed to lemmit.online but I block it everywhere else. cause it is freaking annoying.

I really shouldn't respond to this since I'm just rehashing up one of the stupidest arguments I've ever had. but, what you said is actually pretty close to what my position was. we parted ways when it came to the more distant cousins. I suggested a cool hundred K USD out to second cousins 'cause, after all, 300 million doesn't buy as much as it used to

but surprisingly, it didn't really matter because we didn't win the lottery. imagine that. /s.

My lesson learned was that arguing on principle isn't usually worth it

My wife and I bought 10 lottery tickets at a time when the pot got up to 300 million or something like that. we were talking about what we would would do with the money once we won and couldn't agree on how many of our friends mortgages we would pay off. we MAY have had some other things going on in a relationship at that time, but it's still one of the stupidest arguments I've ever gotten in.

came here to say this. I, unfortunately, learned this from experience. no injuries, but more excitement than I was looking for that day!

whilst updating the firmware on my Epson printer, I was presented with their updated EULA which - shock and surprise /s- limits users rights to seek relief in court or participate as part of a class in any class action suit.

While you can't update the firmware without accepting the terms of the new EULA, they do describe a way to opt-out of the provisions which limit your legal rights. You simply need to send a letter to them saying you want to opt out of those provisions. ** BUT** you only have 30 days from the date you accept the EULA to opt-out.

For anyone inclined, I've included a template of the letter I sent for myself to save others time in doing the same.

do any off the Lemmy or kbin apps provide a way to browse instances other than your own? kind of like filtering for "local" posts but local to another federated instance.

I've subscribed to communities from other instances once I find ones I like. but the only way I can "find" them it's if I see an interesting post when I filter for "all" posts - what some other site might refer to as a post making it to the front page

I guess I could hunt from a web browser to do that, but I'd rather not have to switch between apps to do that
