As others have said if it is on f-droid it is probably safe, but there are better options on f-droid, such as andOTP(TOTP), Authenticator Pro(TOTP and HOTP) as well as KeepassDX(TOTP and HOTP) which is primarily a password manager but also does 2FA.

I have just checked out Secur and it does indeed look nice because of flutter ;) it offers the average encryption settings but lacks the depth of settings and configureability that andOTP and Authenticator pro have such as not being able to change the 2FA once you have made it, or back it up or change the icons.

It still clearly needs fully developing so that is probably why. If you just need a basic 2FA app then it is okay but if you need a more robust app then the others would be better, Authenticator Pro looks really nice too, plus I would recommend keepassDX anyway. Hope that helps

Yes I think cities should have more cycle lanes or just actually have a dedicated cycle lane on roads like is common in China. Cycling is great for us and the earth and pretty much erradicates traffic jams which is a great bonus!

Thanks, I don't view him as an enemy I want to broaden his mind. some common ground would be good and I'll have a look at those articles

Possibly if people link the invidio.us redirect page as well as the YouTube link so that people can then choose an active instance and not flood one instance

So there is this guy at my college (UK) and he is a monarchist and definitely right wing and the topic of Daunte Wright's Murder came up in conversation and he was excusing the cops actions, which is just disgusting. He was saying that down to nerves the cop didn't realise it was a gun and also brought up that Daunte had a warrant on him, which I have not heard of.

So the guy is a **** and burden on society (makes racist, homophobic, transphobic jokes) and at the time I wanted to prove him wrong and educate his ass but I didn't know how, so how can I deal with a situation like this?

I agree and it also sucks that people aren't allowed to host their own signal servers or make their own signal clients. Signal has been capitalismed now :(

I agree its frustrating seeing people use them with no way to get them to stop

A bonus if it is self hosted or free and open source cloud storage, which adds to the privacy

Why are you on social media? because all your friends and family are there, simple. If you left you would feel as if you would lose connection to them, however this isn't true. Social media is only there for the purpose of making money out of you through advertising and selling your data.

But how else do I contact them? There are many messengers that aren't social media as well as just calling them on the phone or meeting up in person. This is basically just common sense and you shouldn't feel like you would lose them because as Henry from techlore put it, you shouldn't lose a friend just because you don't use a website, the real friends will still find a way to contact you.

But why would I want to leave? If you haven't heard recently half a billion peoples Facebook data got leaked, that's roughly one in five people that use Facebook, well there you are one big reason not to use Facebook. Also the fact that Facebook collects and sells up to 57% of the data you put into it with third parties (other companies that you aren't told about) and Instagram (owned by Facebook) 79% including location, pictures, contacts anything you upload. And more which includes anything that they work out about you, using algorithms and AI, that you haven't even shared with them such as political preference, sexuality and of course they know who all your friends are and how much you speak to them and for how long and who you speak to the most. They could know you better than you, this should scare you; that's not my aim I just want to spread awareness of this.

What about Facebook messenger? Well it is not end to end encrypted by default meaning that the text that you send is sent through the Facebook servers in plaintext they can read store and do whatever they want with it, same with Instagram. End to end encryption (E2EE) in simple terms means putting a lock on your message before it is sent over facebooks servers so they can't read what is inside.

So what to do about it?

  • Spread awareness of the issue
  • Move over to an E2EE messenger such as signal, XMPP, Threema, matrix, element, Jami or briar
  • Delete Facebook!

I agree with samuraikid, it looks okay but is kinda shaky, with having injected third party sponsors into the search suggestions and also integrates with block chain wallets. Sure it focusses on privacy but not quite as well as fire fox and others. Get another non chromium browser is my advice.

Hi I am wondering if using a brick phone/flip phone vs an android with grapheneOS/calyxOS is better for specifically being tracked by companies?

Purely on the fact that there is so little attack surface or any apps that can be used to track you and your location on a flip phone but there is the drawback of not having encrypted messaging. which is better and why?

Instagram is one of the worst apps or websites for sharing users data with third parties, they store all of your data and I mean every little bit you upload on your account, I'm about to delete my account having successfully moved the people I need to communicare with to wire!
