It's worth the time to me, but I can definitely understand why others might not feel the same. Personally, I don't love the Viking "honour and glory" theme but I do like the zany "mystery" side quests and the overall game structure. As for whether it's a rinse-and-repeat of previous games... yeah, it is, in most meaningful ways. Since Origins, they've relied on a lot of the same mechanisms, but that's not a deal breaker to me. I like (modern) AC because of the visual polish and atmosphere, not necessarily unique gameplay. Odyssey was my favourite of the "new" gen of AC games, and I think Valhalla made a lot of tangible improvements to the mechanics and gameplay loops since that title.
gaydarless
I too am enjoying AC Valhalla, lol.
Depressing to see my city make it here. Our provincial government (surprise — conservative!) does not give a fuck about how many people no longer have a place to live. It is incredibly grim.
Hello! I'm habitually a lurker but trying to be a bit more active these days. Glad to see a few other Maritimers checking in.
I really like this perspective and I think I'll try this framing moving forward. Thanks for sharing.
I do when travelling in any capacity (public transit, airplane) and most of the time when I'm in close proximity to a large group of other people (grocery store, crowded indoor event, anywhere with poor ventilation). I am starting to try doing some unmasked social events with a limited number of participants. It was only in June of this year that I started doing this. Prior to that, I masked everywhere all the time, except with my "bubble" of friends.
Project Hail Mary is so good! It's a great example of sci fi that doesn't take itself too seriously, but has a lot of actual science involved. I was just getting the itch to re-read it the other day!
Grim and unsurprising. My single largest non-rent expense is my grocery bill, which continues to increase with seemingly no prospect of stabilizing. I don't know how families with children are making it right now. I suspect a lot of folks are living on cards.
Sorry about the mispost! The app I'm using assured me I was in lemmy.ca — should have just posted from the actual website 🤦
Thanks for sharing your stance regardless.
What's true for someone else isn't automatically true for you. You don't have to discount your own perspective and feelings so that they perfectly match up with those of someone you like and admire.
Well said. Times feel very bleak.
Unchecked capitalism needs to be reigned in. I keep looking at the situation around me—rising inflation, lack of affordability, unchecked corporate greed, housing insecurity, wage stagnation, apocalyptic weather events spurred by climate change, etc.—and thinking, "surely something has to give."
Whatever happens, I suspect it will be painful for the average person.
Usually something like, "This too shall pass" or "The only constant is change." Reminding myself of the impermanence of every situation makes present difficulties bearable.
What also helps me is the prospect of emerging on the other side of the situation as someone with more experience, more self-understanding, and greater resilience. Those traits are high on my list of personal values.
