I know most people want to jump to “You have trouble concentrating? You must have ADHD.” The biggest thing that differentiates a disorder from simply having symptoms is the severity of impact on a person’s life. If it causes a person so much distress that they cannot maintain classes or a job or family life, then intervention is needed.

I think it’s more likely a difference in attention stamina. I’m not sure about you, but going from high school to university was a large difference in attention demand. I didn’t have 70 min lectures in high school, but suddenly I was expected to pay attention for college classes.

I would highly suggest looking into attention stamina training, such as the increasing pomodoro training. Short spans of attention with breaks, and slowly increase the intervals. It is highly effective and used by medical student applicants in preparation for long attention demands for the entrance exam.

If the difficulty with attention is still very persistent, definitely talk to a counselor about it. Some of the first things they may ask you is whether you are getting regular and adequate sleep, and if you consume caffeine, as they each have a pretty large effect on concentration with everyone.

Yeah I wasn’t looking to define pathological behavior but rather provide context for a differing perspective. I can see this isn’t the right time to provide a different viewpoint.

I agree that it should not be normalized, but calling it pathological is a pretty callous description for it. I have had many girlfriends go through my phones and I really had nothing that was upset them, so I didn’t care, but I was always curious. The more I understood it, the checking comes from insecurity that is rooted in trauma. They did it in an effort to protect themselves from being hurt. It was not logical to me because I had given no reason to have them doubt; but the level of hurt and distrust caused them to have extremely careful precautions.

Sure, small groups of closed-minded people can easily become echo chambers. For everyone else, safe spaces can be a way to support thoughts or feelings that may not otherwise be expressed and discussed. I guess the question becomes “What percentage of safe spaces are made up of mostly close-minded people?” If you assume that most people are close-minded, then you are correct.

Yeah, I just checked. It looks low-res with Memmy, but HD with Voyager and Avelon. The image still downloads in full res.

Thanks! I appreciate you considering the feedback. And again, thanks for the app. I just heard about it, and it is crispy clean.

Do any of you have a recommendation for a fiber modem? I always used my own for cable but am trying fiber optic. I am in a similar situation as OP, but was just going to connect my old router to their fiber modem/router and try to turn off their router function.

And for that matter, a router brand to stick with? I have had good luck with Netgear but am seeing advice against it. I mainly just want a good QOS to prioritize video chats and casual gaming.

Just started using the beta. It is very smooth and my new favorite lemmy app.

I would love to see a toggle for “default external links to Reader Mode.” The search function was a little difficult to find with the arrow in Explore; idk if there’s a way to have the search more accessible. And I would love to see some icon options whenever in the future.

Fantastic app though. I love the theme options built-in and smooth UI.

I definitely agree with the Shokz. I think it’s nice to hear the environment while running for safety’s sake. I believe the Pros are a Best Buy exclusive, but they didn’t have some on display in the store by me. I ended up taking a chance on them and like them. The bass is a little better with the Pros than the regular ones, but it’s always going to sound a bit different than conventional earbuds. I wear glasses and they don’t bother me, but I would recommend putting the headphones on first, pushing the band in the back all the way up on your head, and then put glasses on.

I would definitely have to say my wife. She inspires me to be a better person and my life has been exponentially better since I have known her. Don’t get me wrong, the relationship has been a LOT of work. But every ounce is worth it. And I would not have had the chance to be with her without my dad teaching me a solid work ethic. That with my patience/persistence/determination has gotten me to so many better spaces. I’ve definitely learned to highly value those good people around.

Ahh, damn. I didn’t catch that

Thanks for the suggestion. I remember that heat loss through the head being debunked a few years ago. She probably does have poor circulation though 😬
