Yeah they win purely on marketing be that fud or monopolization of standards like file formats. If it was a fair fight open source would be the standard. I kinda wish there was an org who's job was to just advertise open source software to regular people all around the world. The best way for people to switch their applications on windows to open source ones then move to Linux after they feel comfortable.

I also think the fact that it's open source kind of takes the mystery out of the ai game and since it's said to be preforming as well as ChatGPT. Takes the wind out of any hardware partners of Openai.

I could not agree more the one hope I have is the concept of open source and free software. That is the one concept humanity got right. It's not perfect but it's the one small glimpse of a star trek like world.

When having one of my bad days I think of that quote. It's was a random statement in a comicbook of all things. If you check my post history I would be considered a doomer about the climate only but I'm trying to not be.

I mean anything can be a dildo if you are brave enough and some of anything is plastic.

Note I don't think this has anything to do with sex toys and to it's not plastic pollution is laughable.

It's in reality it's somewhere in the middle. There aee definitely people out there that don't want to see anything non white being represented as anything other than subservient to Whites. But on the other side some elements of Hollywood or any production companies use inclusivity as a shield to stamp down any criticism no matter how much is constructive. Because at the end of the day they don't care about the art they care about their money.

Like for example if you ever read DC comics especially but also another forms of media. They have just been around a long time so it's more pronounced. You will notice a trend of characters that were Red Headed when inclusivity initiatives were publicized they were the characters that changed to Black.

To me you are just swapping one minority to another and patting yourself on the back. Instead of creating dynamic interesing characters that are three dimensional and just so happens to be Black. A good example of this is Static Shock I don't like Virgil becase he is Black I like him because he is a kick ass and interesting character that happens to be black. To do any less is no different than the stereotypes from The Song of the South.

Hell look at South Park Tolkien is one of the kids that has his shit together with awesome loving parents and holds his own with the other kids. He is not a stereotype nor is he held up to be symbol of diversity. Hell the joke token calls that out.

So because corporations uses it as a let's score some points in a hollow cynical way of making money. The small loud voices of bigots are used to get the wider group to come to the products defense for even wider profits for the company.

Because most people are good at least I hope they are and their logic is even if this show is bad I believe in having these voices represented so I will defend it so they make more. To me that's not good enough those voices need to be respected as well. Not used as a gimmick or a pat on the back. It's the equivalent of donating a $1000 and spending $1,000,000 publicizing it.

9/11 was the day optimism died just look at star trek directly before and after with star trek enterprise and everything that came after it.

It was not what was done to America which was horrible. It was how we responded and continue to respond.

AI is not AI until it ether begs us to not be shut off or asks to be shut off due to not wanting to deal with our bullshit.

Very true I have been a Debian user since 98. I have tried other distros but it only lasts a month or two before I come back. Debian just works and if you need something newer testing works great got home use. I can wait a little when freeze happens and worse case I have flatpak and distrobox to fall back on.

It's like people forget Ubuntu is based on Debian but I guess with Snapd that may no longer be true.

I have a theory that this movie was cobbled together out of what they could before covid stopped production and before Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar. when it was still a series that's why it's effect and adr riddled. They had to build their story out of what they had. I bet they couldn't afford for her to come back. I could be wrong did she do any marketing for the movie. I only saw kurtzman and the director. When he made that statement that basically undermined the whole premise of star trek.

The toxic jungle will eventually spread and the ohmu will not be calmed.

I know i would go crazy eating the same bland flakes

I was just thinking about the word social media as a term answer how it relates to regular media.

Like what is regular media? it's someone that is paid to entertain you for money or influence you for people that pay them for power.

Now the word social media if it relates to old media what would it be at face value. It's a person that is paid to make you feel like you have a social connection with them for money influence you for people that pay them that want power.

Like what was social connections on the internet before the rise of social media.

It was forums and if we look at that word what is it as face value from the word itself its meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

Ideas to be exchanged everyone was equal there was no media personalities no popularity contests. No followers just a group of people sharing ideas around a common interest.

How off base am I? did I miss anything in my reasoning here?

Like the question above am I just an old man that's not keeping up with the times or is terminator still a great terminal to use in 2025?

My favorite was a time my best friend and I were on the second phone line talking and took on 15 to 2 in quake 2 CTF and won.

Im looking for the internet equivalent of screaming into the void when stress gets to great and you are about to pop.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, might have breathed in too many soap fumes.

Token Ring sends the packets to every node by passing it from one node and if that node is not the recipient it passes it on to the next node.

Memos were created the day before with a list of recipients then it was passed around till everyone on the list had read it.

  1. Never realize it takes place over labor day weekend until today. It hits even harder knowing that.
  2. It kind of makes me sad not knowing how the original Bell got acess to the Net without jadzia's help. That makes me think he couldn't and It was a predestination paradox and the implication is humanity couldn't put us on a path to the world of star trek on our own and we needing star fleet to push the scales. Explains a lot for our timeline.
  3. 1995 Me: Getting the voices on the Net would fix things for sure. 2024 Me: There would be a misinformation campaign to drown out those voices and used by grifters to make a quick buck off the cause. Most would just swipe to the next youtube short/reelz/TikTok video.

Yeah i made myself sad

So i did my update today. Due to plasmashell being broken for me right now. I had to roll back, thank you Timeshift. So it got me wondering what day of the week works best for you all to update?
