Do you have a news or other source on the deletion, or any context for it?

Nice!

FYI there is also the https://madeinca.ca/ site which lists Canadian made and produced products in a variety of categories.

The ability to leverage both barcode scanning and some solid reference sites for products would be an excellent combo! Maybe a crossover episode is in the works…

I was looking at Proton for mail and calendar right around the time the Andy thing kicked off. I hadn’t yet pulled the trigger on Proton due to their fairly high pricing. I ultimately decided on Tuta for mail and calendar, and I have no issues using their native/desktop apps. I am still forwarding everything from my Gmail account as I slowly work through changing my email on key services. So far so good.

The one issue I had with Tuta is no ability to import mail unless you are at the highest priced tier. I’m on the middle one so no import. What I did instead was just download a copy of my Gmail to an MBOX file, and I have that on my desktop and access it with Thunderbird (read only) as needed. This was fine for me as I don’t have much mail of significance.

Switching was a small action, but one that made me feel immediately better, like I did something concrete in opposition to the rapidly enshittifying tech universe.

Thanks for the recommendation. What domain do you use for your email address, if you don’t mind my asking? Sounds like there are country codes available, but I’m not sure how relevant they would be to the address.

What legal jurisdiction do they operate in? I see German and English versions of their site but nothing in About Us on jurisdiction.

I have been mulling over Posteo for encrypted mail. Looks like a lot of the same benefits as mailbox.org, but my main attraction was the price (one euro per month) and fact that they do not associate payment with your email account. Haven’t done a deep dive but will compare to mailbox.org before I pull the trigger.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Almost tapped out at Nice.

Enshittification is everywhere.

Crazy amount of PGs today. And like always, I looked at the letters at first and thought, ‘there can’t be too many words out of this puzzle’, only to be proven very, very wrong.

If you need any hand saws, I highly recommend visiting any local building materials recycling stores, or anywhere that takes a variety of household donations including tools. I have found a number of high quality general-purpose, rip, and back saws at the local Habitat for Humanity re-store that only needed a bit of clean up before they were ready for regular use. A lot of these saws get donated and people don’t value them much.

Same may be true for screwdrivers but finding a particular manufacturer or match set may be challenging. I’ve assembled a good set of torx drivers over time without much effort, for example.

Lots of other deals to be had in these places as well, including sandpaper, hardware, and PPE of all sorts.
