I don't think their cast iron is made in Canada - but I emailed customer service for confirmation.

I'll trade you a homemade carbon steel pan for a homemade stainless steel spatula ;)

Yea, that comes next ;)

I started by selecting the movement that I wanted to use - the ETA 6497. I then looked up the movement dimensions. This movement is 36.6mm.

I then looked for cases designed to fit a 6497. This is a pretty large movement (originally meant for pocket watches) and I wanted the smallest case possible. I eventually landed on a 42mm case from SK-watchparts.

Different cases require different dial diameters. This one needs something the same size as the movement or very slightly larger. I went looking for something between 36.6 and 37mm. It needs to be designed for the specific movement so that the dial feet are in the correct location.

Similarly, I looked up the dimensions nedded for the hands. The case opening is 34mm so I went with a 17mm minute hand so that it barely clears. A 15mm hand would probably look better tbh. The hands have different mounting diameters so I made sure to get ones that were listed as fitting my movement.

I'm planning on trying to make my own dial next - I want to use a piece of reclaimed wood with a markings engraved and filled with coloured epoxy.

My handwriting isn't great but it's legible (by me at least). I'm old (40s)and still find it quicker to jot notes - especially when I need to add figures.

The blog post is an incredible read.

Thanks! I'll be honest, when I got the case I found myself questioning why I wanted to try and make my own - I really like it...

Yea, if the Supernote Manta had been available that is probably the way I would have gone. I'm really interested in their repairability/upgradeability angle. I've had a Framework laptop for ages that just grows with me. Less waste, less cost.

I have a Remarkable Paper Pro. I use it for notes, organization, reading books, etc. I love it.

The new Supernote is also a compelling option.

The ePaper display means I rarely have to worry about battery and the pen feeling is MILES better than any LCD I've ever tried.

My files all sync to my laptop and my phone, and it is way more comfortable to write on than a double screen device because I can have my 'pad' in letter orientation and my hand doesn't run into the screen which can happen on the double screen devices.

It's also fantastic for taking notes in meetings because I don't have a laptop between me and the others and I don't get distracted by notifications. It's also light enough to disappear into my bag next to my laptop.

Completely understand and hugs. Pets' lives are too short.

I mean, I'd give you a hug, take you to my local pub which just so happens to be queer owned and does fundraising for amazing causes and introduce you to my friends and community. Hell, I have a spare bedroom if you want a place to crash while you get set up.

You aren't your government any more than the turds running my province (Alberta) are me. You'll most likely be met with sympathy for the challenges you face in making such a big move and admiration for having the conviction and courage to do so.

Like any country, there'll be jerks, but as a rule of thumb, we're pretty friendly.

Heck, if you want a vacation, shoot me a message and come visit and use that spare room I mentioned. Do you hike or bike? I'm in Calgary which is super close to epic mountain fun and incredible scenery. We've also got three cats who demand attention, and a guide-dog in training who is a goofy/genius puppy, so there's lots of pet-therapy available too.

Not at all! Someone sent me a very nice message and I've been trying to respond with thanks which is why I ran into this and reached out.

Seriously - great app and hugely appreciate it. Is there a way to finally contribute? I've got minimal coding expertise but would like to contribute in some way.

As a general rule, I hate opinion pieces as I feel that they are a major contributor to our slide towards 'facts don't matter' US style political rhetoric. That said, I thought this was an interesting and fact driven piece that if anything was too easy on the RCMP. Sharing a journalist's request for information with the union, without permission, definitely struck me as a serious lapse in judgment.

tl;dr - Black man driving his dad's BMW is detained for being suspicious because he doesn't look like the sort of person who drives that car. He is subject to a rough arrest as his mother watches. Gatineau police insist there was no racial profiling.

If a health care worker did something like this, they would be facing discipline from their professional college and would face massive ramifications. If I, as a consulting professional, send unprofessional messages to a client and they contacted my boss, I would be out of a job instantly. 20 hours pay forfeiture is a joke in my opinion. The police need to be held to a higher standard than the general public, but seemingly face no actual discipline regardless of how egregious their behaviour is.

Just printed this plant pot and the quality is absolutely trash. It's a large print (150mmx150mmx150mm) but printed using my normal settings. It's solid wall - 4-5 perimeters thick. Sliced in Prusaslicer 2.6.1 and printed on an Ankermake M5. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hey all,

Hoping someone has an idea about what's going on here. I just printed a plant pot (4-5 perimeters, solid walls) and I'm getting these weird diagonal bands with regular spacing. I'm also getting a ton of ringing.

Model was sliced in Prusaslicer 2.6.1 and printed on an Ankermake M5.

Thoughts?

So I commute year round in Calgary and that means cold and dark. I can't seem to find a tail light that isn't disposable garbage and will actually hold up to a few years of use.

Yes you can basically buy tail lights in bulk off Amazon - but I hate tossing dead junk in the trash. I would rather pay more for a light that lasts.

My perfect light would use replaceable 18650 (or whatever size) lithium ion cells, or at least have USB-C with pass-through charging (so that I can run it off an external battery in a pinch).

For front lights I use Outbound Lighting and they are perfect - long battery life, great performance, pass-through charging, works in the cold. Unfortunately Outbound doesn't make tail lights. I've begged.

So anyone have a tail light that they LOVE?

Beans here is one of my current fosters and has the wildest case of polydactyly I've ever seen. Hard to see but there six toes on that foot - and 19 more across his remaining feet.

MobileSyrup says the Nothing Phone (2) is coming to Canada.

I'll admit it - I'm intrigued. I normally go with Pixel devices for stock Android so I'm a little hesitant about Nothing's implementation, but the device itself looks pretty cool.

This is Aros (and brother Durin). Aros has polydactyly and by our count has 25 toes - 7 more than normal. He has six toes on each hind foot and left forefoot, and a whopping seven on his right forefoot. Nail trims should be fun with this little guy!

The bonus digits don't seem to bother him in the slightest and living in Canada, I'm sure he'll appreciate the extra floatation in the snow if he ever manages to sneak out during winter - because those feet are like snowshoes!

Shelters are packed right now so PLEASE consider a shelter animal rather than some bougie breed that is likely to have a ton of health issues.

Also - if you can't commit to a pet long term but could foster a kitter or pupper, it's a super rewarding experience. Our shelter covers everything from vet visits to food to even toys so it's a zero cost way to bring a fuzz-ball into your home and out of a cramped shelter while they look for their forever home!

Fostering four orphaned goofballs. Eating is a messy, full body experience...

Spray Lakes Sawmills is planning to clearcut trees in the Moose Mountain area. This area sees tons of hikers, mountain bikers, and other recreationalists. It would be INCREDIBLY short sighted to proceed with this plan as we'd be sacrificing a huge tourist draw for a brief cash grab. Please consider signing the petition!
