This is pretty disturbing, I hope she gets a massive paycheck for this violation.

they're also working on backporting android 16 to pixels. in phase 2/3 last time i checked, so they are doing decently well. it's not over, it just adds more work for them that i'm sure they can overcome. security updates already backported :)

a few things i like:

  • moments is an interesting concept
  • it says you can toggle off gemini ai. this is good
  • display goes from 10-120hz for battery
  • ultrawide selfie camera
  • microsd card slot!
  • power button fingerprint scanner, way better than underscreen

alias qr='qrencode -t ansiutf8'

This makes qr codes in the terminal.

needs the qrencode package

Example usage and output:

felix@buttsexmachine:~$ qr lemmy.fish

I've had two server oses here: alma linux and debian(currently). On both of them, they will hang when I shut them down from cockpit, and they hang at the end of the shutdown.

Also, it takes an hour to a day to have this issue start. if it's restarted two times in a row quickly, it works perfectly fine for some reason.

What I've tried:

  • setting "acpi=off" and "acpi=force" kernel parameters in grub
  • removing my nvidia gpu(i was using nouveau drivers)
  • changing distros

nothing worked. here are some things that both distros had in common with eachother:

  • systemd
  • cockpit
  • libvirt & qemu
  • docker

does anyone have advice? nothing i've seen online has worked. thank you for suggestions

I've started using beets to manage my music library, but it doesn't work well with jellyfin. As you can see, it creates about a million artists off of features, and this makes it hard to use. I can't find a way to fix this in beets, so I'm considering switching, but haven't found any proper alternatives. Do you guys solve this in any way, or use a different management software that is more standard? Thank you!

RHEL 10 announced that RDP would be the preferred alternative to VNC. Red Hat replaced Spice with VNC in Red Hat 8 due to licensing issues with h.246. VNC is under featured and basic compared to both alternatives. Spice uses proprietary h.246 which caused disputes with licenses. RDP is proprietary to microsoft but has a few foss implementations.

has anyone noticed pages that are just ai slop popping up recently? they have low quality information and serve no purpose but to waste time.

if you haven't experienced these, just search up a common tech problem and click on a generically named site. chances are, it will have a table of context and generally low quality writing. if you get lucky, there might also be some blatant lies in there(for example: this site claims garmin instinct watches have an sd card).

is there a ublock origin blocklist for these? thank you for suggestions.

Recently my music downloader of choice yams.tf shut down. It was the only place I got music out of convenience. It's the only apple music ripper on fmhy. Now, I can't get new music and lyrics. I'm looking for a solution to this, whether that be self hosting(I only do FOSS) or a better downloader. Just note that I value organization and consistent file metadata.

Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Hey all, I'm having an issue with my ~2009 MacBook Pro that refuses to turn on, and I could really use some help. Here are the details:

Symptoms:

The MacBook Pro doesn't turn on at all.

The charger stays green, even with the battery in.

When I connect the battery, all the battery indicator dots flash on, then turn off.

The MagSafe connector shows 12V on the pins, so the charger seems to be supplying power.

I’ve removed the battery, and the issue persists.

The battery appears to have a swelling issue.

Troubleshooting so far:

SMC & NVRAM Reset: Tried both, but still no luck. What should be noted though is that when I do an SMC reset for a few seconds the battery level indicator light will flash at one bar as if the battery is empty. This only happens when the batteries are moved.

Charger Works: I’ve tested the charger with another MacBook, so I know it’s functioning properly.

Battery Removed: Even with the battery taken out, it still won’t power on. Also note that the battery appears swollen. Do this, I will probably turn it in.

Board Inspection: I’ve inspected the board visually, but nothing seems wrong. I haven’t taken it apart more than that yet.

OS: The MacBook ran Linux with rEFInd as the boot manager.

Additional Info:

I’m not sure if the swollen battery could be related to the issue, but it seems worth noting.

I haven’t gone deep into the MacBook to check for possible other issues yet.

Anyone run into a similar problem or have any suggestions on what I should check next? I would really appreciate any help.
