This year alone, we’ve seen an 836% increase in fresh food rescued — healthy food that might have otherwise gone to waste, now nourishing 15,000 individuals and supporting 150 community agency partners every month.

One of the most widely circulated Reddit posts under the subreddit "Israel" encapsulated the concern from pro-Israel audiences:

“Have you all seen the new Superman movie? I find it so disrespectful and distressing that a superhero created by two Jewish artists is now being used to promote anti-Israeli messages to the world… I can't understand how this was green-lit at a time like this with global antisemitism on a rise... Of course, the invaders are portrayed as white while the victims are predominantly brown. And of course, if Israel speaks out against the film, it would be seen as 'well, if the shoe fits.'"

Users responding on Twitter wrote: “It’s so funny that they instantly recognize that the movie is about Israel’s genocide in Gaza without being told and yet still have the temerity to get offended and express their indignation in public. It’s like how come you know the evil murderous villains are Israel, guys?”

People on the internet always compare not using a VPN to not wearing protection when dating. But when I use Google, it always mistakes me as being in the next town over, and I'm told this is due to living in a rural area. Is this not the same thing as being protected?

Whether you are pitching a market expansion, proposing a strategic acquisition, or advocating for a major technology investment, you often face objections. The stakeholders might say the timing is wrong, the risk is too high, or the resources should be allocated elsewhere. Whenever you must bring someone over to your point of view, you are likely to get pushback and objections. Learning to deal with objections is a key negotiation skill and one that every business owner or executive must master.

While objections might raise different concerns, they generally take one of three forms:

“Yes, but…,” such as “Yes, but we already have a strategy that works fine.” 
“What if… ?” as in “What if we adopt this strategy and it doesn’t work?”  
“Why should we… ?” For example, “Why should we make this change now, just as people are recovering from recent layoffs?” “Why should we restructure our leadership reporting now, just as we’re stabilizing after the recent acquisition?” 

To bring your reader or listener over to your side, you must be prepared to deal with these objections—and any others that come your way.
Put yourself in the other person’s position

Imagine you were opposing your own proposal. What objections would you have? Consider what you know about your audience: What are their likely concerns? What are their questions? What form are their objections likely to take? The following responses that can help.

1. Acknowledge the person’s objection

You might say, “I hear that you’re concerned about the regulatory requirements of this proposal and how this might affect our relationship with investors.” Then, restate the objection to be sure you truly grasp their meaning.

You could say, “Let me be sure I understand. You’re saying that moving forward with this proposal could trigger regulatory scrutiny that might complicate our other priorities and potentially concern our key investors. Is that correct?” or “If I understand you, you’re worried this could create compliance risks that outweigh the strategic benefits. Did I get that right?”

If the prospect says no, ask for clarification before moving on. This step reassures the other person that you are genuinely listening and that you respect their perspective.

2. Respond to the objections thoughtfully

Respond effectively by demonstrating the benefits of your proposal and describing the costs of not acting. For example, in the board of directors’ case, you could point out that your current strategy does not consider the impact of artificial intelligence on your operations, while the proposed strategy seamlessly integrates AI into the organization. You might also point out that other organizations have successfully implemented similar strategies.

Your description of costs and benefits should focus more on the value of your proposal than the cost. When you clearly convey value, cost becomes less significant.

3. Collaborate to find a solution that feels manageable and worthwhile for everyone

Rather than pushing your position, invite others to share their ideas for addressing the issue. Work together toward an approach that satisfies both sides.

For example, you might establish a phased implementation with designated oversight checkpoints or form a steering committee to oversee the rollout. You could provide data-backed risk assessments, detail contingency plans, and show how the proposal aligns with long-term vision and goals.

For organizational changes, you can offer to hold company-wide meetings where you explain how the prospective change aligns with the company vision, enabling everyone to voice their concerns. Whatever solution you arrive at should feel like a win-win. You should feel heard, and the other party should become an active collaborator in solving the problem.

When you follow these three steps—acknowledge, respond, and collaborate—you will find it easier to respond empathetically and confidently to even the thorniest objections, especially in times when resources are tight, and decisions carry more weight. In celebration of three decades of interactions between the two cities, patrons of the Morioka Victoria Friendship Society gifted a bell called the Bell of Friendship to reflect the significant support and financial aid that residents in Victoria donated during the time of the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

I was initially gonna make this a small post but I really loved my time there so I wanted to put in a bit more effort🤗❤️

Security researchers say Chinese authorities are using a new type of malware to extract data from seized phones, allowing them to obtain text messages — including from chat apps such as Signal — images, location histories, audio recordings, contacts, and more.

In a report [...] mobile cybersecurity company Lookout detailed the hacking tool called Massistant, which the company said was developed by Chinese tech giant Xiamen Meiya Pico.

Massistant, according to Lookout, is Android software used for the forensic extraction of data from mobile phones, meaning the authorities using it need to have physical access to those devices. While Lookout doesn’t know for sure which Chinese police agencies are using the tool, its use is assumed widespread, which means Chinese residents, as well as travelers to China, should be aware of the tool’s existence and the risks it poses.

“It’s a big concern. I think anybody who’s traveling in the region needs to be aware that the device that they bring into the country could very well be confiscated and anything that’s on it could be collected,” Kristina Balaam, a researcher at Lookout who analyzed the malware, told TechCrunch ahead of the report’s release. “I think it’s something everybody should be aware of if they’re traveling in the region.”

Balaam found several posts on local Chinese forums where people complained about finding the malware installed on their devices after interactions with the police.

“It seems to be pretty broadly used, especially from what I’ve seen in the rumblings on these Chinese forums,” said Balaam.

Michael Haire got into the games industry as early as 1981, doing cover artwork for a number of games for the 8-bit computer TRS-80. He quickly started making ingame art as well, and started working for legendary games publisher/developer MicroProse in the mid eighties. Here, he worked on a number of games that are now considered classics, including Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Sid Meier’s Civilization. We had the pleasure of interviewing Michael Haire about his experience as an artist in the games industry.
