Rules and Guidelines

1. No BigotryIncluding racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

2. Be CivilArgue in good faith, attack the argument; not the person, and promote a healthy debate. That includes implying violence, threats or wishes of violence and/or death.

3. No PornThis instance is not made to host porn communities. You're free to access porn communities on other instances through your account, but be mindful of Rule 4.

4. Use the NSFW tagUse your common sense: if you wouldn't want this image to show up on your work computer, tag it as such. In comments, use the
spoiler ::: tag for NSFW images, and put a NSFW mention beside links. Do not use NSFW images as your avatar or banner. :::
5. No Ads / SpamThis instance is not there to act as your billboard. If you want to promote your personal work, at least make the effort to be a contributing member of this community. Your account purpose shouldn't be to only advertise, make it natural.

6. Bot accountIf you are the operator of a "bot" account, make sure to flag is as such in the account's settings.

7. Right to privacyDo NOT distribute the personal information of someone else without their consent (aka doxxing). Information that is public domain can be shared, provided it is in good faith.
ex: The official email of an elected official is fair, the private phone number or the real name of a non-public person is NOT.

8. Report abuseThe report function isn't labelled the disagree button. You might not agree with someone, but that doesn't mean what the person says is against the rules. Using it repeately in this fashion will lead to actions being taken against the reporter.

9. ImpersonationDon't make an account with the intent to negatively deceive or defame someone on the fediverse.
ex: Parody of a famous person is okay, submitting outrageous content as appearing like another user, mod or admin isn't.

Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community is taking Pride back. This Village stands with Palestine! 🇵🇸🏳️‍🌈✊

Last year, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe boycotted Capital Pride for standing with Palestine. Corporations, politicians, and non-queer institutions followed suit. They tried to silence us, but our communities showed up louder than ever — Palestinian, Jewish, queer & allied — making it the biggest Pride Ottawa has ever seen.

Now, 22 months into Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Sutcliffe wants to return with no apology. He’s still tied to right-wing business interests, still silencing criticism of Israel, and still trying to pinkwash his complicity. Straight cis men in power don’t get to define our Pride — not while anti-queer & anti-trans hate rises.

Capital Pride still hasn’t reinstated their solidarity statement, even after 13,000 community emails. Instead, they’ve welcomed Sutcliffe back. We refuse this betrayal.

🛑 This year, we draw a line. You can’t boycott Pride one year & bully us the next. Pride is always a protest — and this year, it’s a protest against genocide-supporting politicians.

📅 Sun Aug 24 | 12PM | Confederation Park March with Queers for Palestine Ottawa. Bring your 🇵🇸 flags, keffiyehs, protest signs, and Pride is a Protest shirts. Bring your joy, your solidarity, your resistance.

➡️ Let’s take Pride back. Let’s show the world our Villages stand with Palestine.

This is a space to explore and share ideas about how we shape the towns and cities we live in. Here we'll be making a place where we can openly discuss urban planning for not only large cities but also our small towns - including but not limited to transit, green spaces, walkability, traffic, and anything related to living in an urban environment.

Many of you already know me, I'm Scrubbles, passionate about Urbanism and excited to see what we can do with this community.

I welcome all posts about Urbanism - videos about it, articles, open questions, whatever you may like!

Minor housekeeping, rules will come as they are needed, my big two are "Don't be a dick" - meaning discussion is welcome and arguments are fine, but I don't tolerate personal attacks, and keep posts on target. Obviously these will evolve with the community.

Hopefully this will be my only "announcement" style post, but felt like we should kick it off somewhere. Welcome!
