Hi all, I'd like to migrate from Lemmy.ml, what would be your most user friendly method to accomplish this? So far I could only find scarce instructions with Python scripts and I wish things were simpler. Thanks !

I fucking hate this shit.

Especially when the retailer does it. Like wtf dude, why do they care if its someone spending their money legitimately, or if its stolen, they get money either way. Is this some weird "we stopped fraudsters" PR campaign?

I'm wondering if the "@protonmail" or just non-Google emails they hate.

Btw: fuck Uber for that one time (about a year ago) when they blocked my account when I needed the return-ride. Wtf. Lyft worked fine for the return trip, fucking Uber lol

My pov is that CRT (critical race theory) and related policies, like DEI, put an undue emphasis on race instead of on poverty, and the resulting effect is that policies which are aimed at helping minorities seem like “favoritism” (and called as such by political opponents), which makes a growing population of poor whites (due to the adverse effects of wealth inequality) polarized against minorities.

Separately, the polarization is used by others who want to weaken a democratic nation. For democracies, a growing immigrant population of more poor people will cause further polarization because the growing poor white population believes that “they’re taking our jobs”. This happened during Brexit, this happened with Trump, and this is happening now in Germany and other western democracies.

I know that there are racist groups who have an agenda of their own, and what I am saying is that instead of focusing on what are painted as culture war issues, leftists are better off focusing on alleviating systemic poverty. Like, bringing the Nordic model to the U.S. should be their agenda.

So, maybe I am wrong about CRT and DEI and how it’s well-meaning intentions are being abused by people who have other goals, but I want to hear from others about why they think CRT and DEI help. I want to listen, so I am not going to respond at all.

— Added definitions —

CRT: an academic field used to understand how systems and processes favor white people despite anti-discrimination policies. Analysis coming out of CRT is often used to make public policy.

DEI: a framework for increasing diversity, equity and inclusion; DEI isn’t focused on race or gender only, but also includes disability and other factors (pregnancy for example) which affect a person.

— —

Okay , so end note: I appreciate the people who commented. I questioned the relevancy of CRT/DEI previously out of an alarmed perspective of how aspects that highlight group differences can be used by others to create divisions and increase polarization. But I get the point everyone is making about the historical significance of these tools.

This is not a question of about parroted nonsense and cultural norms. I mean what end product do they produce that justifies their existence in the first place.

I'm physically disabled and have been living in a prison like situation for nearly 11 years. How does my situation balance into the ethics of prisons? I'm on a path to homelessness and a premature death due to institutionalized neglect and abuse from US institutions. Criminals are housed and fed in exchange for similar isolation, abuse, danger, insurmountable debt, and a largely unemployable and destitute future. These seem to conflict in ethics.

Per Wikipedia:

Analysis paralysis (or paralysis by analysis) describes an individual or group process where overanalyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become "paralyzed", meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon within a natural time frame.

I, as many others suppose, have many things I'd like to do in my lifetime. Nonetheless, even though I've gotten better at it over the years, I still feel easily overwhelmed by all the things I want to do, the things I feel like I'm supposed to do, and the things I must do. What have been your best ways to tackle this? How do you prioritize and find time for different interests, exercise while still combining it with work and other stuff?

Replaced tailgate around Christmas after a collision, and now noticing condensation inside a taillight. Body shop says they're not responsible and are quoting $250 to replace. Please advice.

I just need it to have icon pack support. I don't want anything weird or innovative, just basic (so things like pie and kiss are out)

neo launcher is buggy and hasn't been updated in 2 years, same with lawnchair, and neither of those have widgets working currently. the stock graphene os launcher has zero customization, fossify launcher doesn't support icon packs. ideally Foss, but whatever at this point. bonus points is it supports private space. Thanks guys

I like to binge read and self educate. When coming to a new topic (let's say History of Western Art or Pharmacology) I've never found a single place where I could look up the key texts that a university student would be reading to get into the subject. Usually I search around and find an actual university's reading list or something equally well put together but it's hit and miss.

Had anyone ever come across a single place that holds this kind of info over a wide range of subjects? (Books specifically)

I'll start with some ideas...

  • Hard boil a couple eggs, and write $1 on them. Then, next time you go into a store, offer to pay for your stuff with the eggs.
  • Try to get an insurance policy on a dozen eggs.
  • Try to pawn a dozen eggs.

Hey, if the egg prices are gonna be ridiculous, people might as well have a few lighthearted pranks for shits and giggles!

What ideas do you folks have?

So I've run my own show for just about ten years now. We've never had ads or sponsorships of any kind other than a Patreon plug at the very end.

When I go out into the world and listen to other podcasts I'm perpetually annoyed at the lengthy, frequent ad-breaks. I don't mind being reminded to engage or click on their link or go to a show's Ko-Fi page, but a two minute dollar shave club or AG1 ad is just too much. And, honestly, the amount of advertising dollars some shows take makes me question their integrity just a bit. I know it might be a bit old-fashioned to think that, but I can't help it.

What are you favorite sponsorship-free, ad-free podcasts?

CLARIFICATION EDIT: So, to clarify because it keeps coming up: I'm looking for shows with no ads and that are not on platforms that serve ads during the show in question. To me, in my mind, a podcast is an MP3, which is how I listen to them. They get downloaded and put onto an MP3 player.

I don't watch podcasts on YouTube, and generally try to limit my time on platforms like that in general (although I find it nearly impossible to do so fully). I'm aware that some shows have ad-free versions if you access them via paid fees or behind other subscriptions models, but I'm looking for truly ad-free MP3 audio experiences. Thanks for all the recs so far! I've already compiled quite a list, so keep 'em coming!
