You're right, I'm no Olympic athlete.

I think outside the box, have no brakes, and don't even need shoes.

Don't try this at home, but it's almost the 4th of July, so I might as well share. Yes this is me...

Only minor motor control damage on the right side, for like 2 years, which recovered practically perfectly. The worst I'm left with is a partly numb lower left lip.

I don't even ride my bicycle over 15mph, unless I absolutely have to for some reason. I don't race, and at absolute max my single speed low geared BMX bike can only achieve is 24mph, which I practically never ride that fast.

Read my other comments, my usual cruising pace is ~11mph, and when I do BMX flatland tricks, those are only usually around a mere 5mph. I don't ride any faster than my feet can stop me in a pinch. Brakeless rider here no less.

Try watching a BMX flatland video or three, flatland isn't about speed, its about balance. Sure some riders like to speed, but not me, I just like to cruise and pull some occasional bike tricks.

You might as well insist that the Olympics make ice skaters wear a helmet, equally as dangerous at such low speeds.

I was 16, you think I was thinking much back then? Like I said, I've since quit ramping. My current bike's cruising speed is about 11mph, and is a single speed geared low where even at absolute max it simply cannot exceed 24mph.

I'm not into racing, If I'm not cruising around 11 to 15 mph, I'm doing BMX flatland balance tricks probably around a mere 5mph.

I do thank you for the thoughts and advice though, but you're assuming I'm going way faster than I usually do. If I somehow manage to hit my head doing anything at 5mph, I'll just retire from riding altogether.

I'm nowhere near as skilled as these riders, but I took lots of inspiration from these professional riders. Note what the pros don't even use in flatland...

Enjoy the video clip, or not, up to you. Have a good day.

People that rely on AI are rapidly losing critical thinking skills, and even those of us that don't rely on it are still seeing AI generated content damn near everywhere now.

I think it can be funny at times, when deliberately and obviously used to make funny memes and stuff, but really shouldn't be used for anything serious, and definitely shouldn't be used to make deepfakes.

Even when used in good intentions, AI can be erroneous or just outright wrong. All the while, as the machines 'learn', more and more people are blindly trusting it and forgetting how to think for themselves.

TL;DR - I don't like AI

Imagine having to slam your horn because someone just cut you off, and you hit half of those buttons all at once.. 🤦‍♂️

I thought that was a Winamp skin at first glance haha! That could totally work though, as would almost any retro stereo as a skin.

You just reminded me I have the first version of that game around somewhere, I might dig it back out one of these days soon.

Did you miss my point about the visor? If I had been wearing a helmet with a visor when that happened, the extra protrusion from the visor sticking out from my forehead would have pushed my head back about an additional 20 degrees and would have snapped my neck.

Did anyone catch the actual article about the helmet recall? Those helmets have... visors

I never said helmets are a bad thing, I said helmets with a visor are a bad thing.

Either way I still would have busted my chin open, that was the initial main point of impact, and I don't see too many bike helmets out there with chin guards.

Of course I wear a seatbelt when in a vehicle, but we're not talking about seatbelts nor passengers to even kick out. We're talking about a bicycle, my bicycle in my case, which I'll ride however I choose.

I'm 42 now, been riding bicycles since I was 4. As long as I keep the wheels on the ground and don't do stupid stuff like ramping, I have never once hit my head.

Sure I've busted my knees, shins and elbows a few times doing flatland balance tricks, so if I went for protective gear, I'd go for the gear I actually need, shin guards, elbow guards, and kneepads.

If I was so worried about any little chance of busting my head, I'd wear a helmet every time I walk up and down the stairs. Hell, a friend of mine just last month missed a single 4" high step coming out of a gas station and busted his head wide open and needed 10 staples.

Point is, you can trip and fall practically anywhere, even just on foot. With that said, why don't pedestrians wear helmets? They're just as much at risk, especially if walking near or across road traffic..

Open the closed ecosystem and make them much more repair friendly.

Right To Repair!

I'm not sure what I think about the white on white background though, I might one day open it up and use a black marker to color in the Roman Numerals for better contrast.

Sorry for potato quality, Lemmy kept timing out so I had to reduce photo quality to knock the image size down.

I've been testing this OS for a bit, but I'm having trouble where drives are shutting down prematurely, as if the power management is too aggressive when it comes to external USB drives.

My USB hard drive will shut down on whatever timer Linux is using, despite my VirtualBox machine actively using it via Shared Folders. I have to use the Linux host and Caja to wake the drive back up. Like what the hell?

My USB DVD drive will spin up stupid fast to buffer a lot of DVD video, then Linux spins the drive down and turns it off. Then the next time it needs data, the drive has to spin up stupid high speed again, causing the video to freeze frequently while the drive spins back up, way too fast no less for the task. Why not a simple consistent speed and keep the drive running while watching a movie? VLC if that matters, on the host Linux.

Is this a power management configuration issue? Are these somehow the same issue, or are they two separate issues?

What should I do to resolve/reconfigure?

I heard you folks like cassette players around here..

Yes I put it in the trash at least.

I can't find that episode, the camera burned up, did anyone else get footage from a different angle?

Similar to how the term 'digital' has shifted from doing numeric calculations and storage to how it's used today, referring to content you purchase and stream or download from the internet.

Terminology changes over time, and I'm not sure that I like some of the changes. 🤷

I've got a whole bucket full of old hard drives, CDs and DVDs, and I'm starting the process of backing up as much as still works to a 4TB drive.

It's gonna be a long journey and lots of files, many prone to being duplicates from some of the drives.

What sorts of software do you Linux users recommend?

I'm on Linux Mint MATE, if that matters much.

Edit: One of the programs I'm accustomed to from my Windows days is FolderMatch, which is a step above simple duplicate file scanning, it scans for duplicate or semi-duplicate folders as well and breaks down individual file differences when comparing two folders.

I see I've already gotten some responses, and I thank everyone in advance. I'm on a road trip right now, I'll be checking you folks recommend software later this evening or as soon as I can anyways.
