I can’t take constantly being behind on dishes and having them sit. It’s gross. I’m considering a bench top dishwasher… ideally I’d do it by hand every day but this is the chore I consistently struggle with the most.

Has anyone here had one?

Appliances online have dish drawers for like 1000-2000 but I don’t think I’ll be doing that. (Been budgeting my buns off but have dental coming up.)

I’m looking at the benchtop dishwashers in the $400 ballpark, and it would have to be the kind with a renter friendly adapter that attaches to the tap.

I've never used a bench top dishwasher but I will be if I move again and the next place doesn't have a dishwasher. This is the first place I've ever lived in that has a dishwasher, and I never want to go back

Unsure how much they are or if they have them, but Kids off the Kerb might have a refurbished one. I got my fridge, washing machine, and dryer from them, they teach disadvantaged youth how to refurbish appliances.

My fridge is still going strong after 9 years or so, and the washing machine has only just carked it (I think I just need to replace the drain part though).

They might have something for cheaper than retail πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Oh that is so cool. Thanks for letting me know, refurbished and ex display models are great

Appliances online also have one for $499 - I just looked. Good reviews and free delivery too.

Thanks! I’ll see how much the luxury bones set me back and then maybe see if I can even buy on Boxing Day

Hope it works for you. I used to have a dishwasher - but he moved out and hasn't come back yet.

Was it within warranty period πŸ€”

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Alas no. Past 21 years. Then his brother left too.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I have one of these.

Midea

If you've got any questions happy to help.

Oh sweet. How easy is it to use?

Are you able to easily get the tap connection on and off, any leaks, are there any flimsy plastic pieces I could accidentally break?

Thanks

Very easy to use.

I don't use the hose because I would need a special tap fitting so instead I hand fill it. They give you jug for this. Very easy to fill.

There's no flimsy plastic to break. Very easy to clean.

I'll add that some plates don't fit so I had to buy some more. Under 27cm diameter fit. Corelle make some. Medium saucepan will fit. A large won't.

I'm considering a bench top dishwasher as well so this is good info! Thanks!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

As far as I know this is the only one on the market that you can hand fill (it was when I was looking). If your tap has a thread then you can use the hose that's supplied. You can even buy connections that allow you to leave it connected and use the tap as well otherwise you have to disconnect it everytime you want to use it. Too much hassle and that's why I chose this one.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's really good to know. I do have a spare washing machine type tap in the "laundry" and space on top of the washing machine along with a power point so in theory it could be the perfect place for the dishwasher. I'm thinking of getting a second hand one maybe. Are they any good at washing plastic things (at least better than hand washing)?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Washes plastic better than hand washing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thanks, all this is very useful. It’s mostly mugs and cutlery, maybe a salad plate. Pet bowls

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This one is perfect for you then. You can fit 24 pieces of cutlery and maybe 9 cups in there together. You can connect it to the tap or hand fill it. Washes last anywhere between 3 hours (economy) or half an hour.

The only thing to remember is you must open the door when the cycle is finished so the dishes dry otherwise mold may build up in there.

Nice, thanks. This is the stuff I need to know. Maybe when I get it I’ll start it and use the time to do other stuff then open it up

Seriously life changing

This is where I got the idea from

Not the exact same model but very very close.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ohhh great point about the tank. I assumed the sink hookup would be universal but apparently not

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

That's the beauty about this model. You have options. This is what comes with it to help fill it up without it spilling everywhere.

When you're done filling it up, it will beep and you lift the funnel thing off (it just sits on there) and you put the cap on. Then ready to go. I mainly use the 1 hour function.

Do you fill it up with the hottest water you can, or does it just heat up whatever water it has like a conventional dishwasher?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Cold water. It has a built-in heater.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Have had a benchtop since 2015ish. Sheffield model. Use the dishwasher gel, not the pellets, pay attention to any stacking requirements. I piggybacked it on the washing machine cocks and had it dump in the laundry sink at the old place, new one it's in the brewery for glassware

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Cheers, the gel would probably dissolve better

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

yup, we had huge issues with the tablets not dissolving properly
