The only solution to traffic and gridlock is providing viable alternatives to driving. If you're gonna spend all the money on a tunnel, at least put a train in there. A double track would have a way higher throughput than even 10 lanes of underground traffic.
I don't think I'll ever comprehend why alternatives to driving are never explored properly. I think roads or equivalents have to be so much more expensive to construct and maintain than a rail.
Heck even a roundabout once in a while helps with traffic flow from what I've seen.
Itβs not that hard to understand. Cars and oil are big business. Cheap/good transit would cut in to that business. Liberals and Conservatives are in bed with big business.
That's like saying Paul Reubens and Jim Jones were both criminals. There's some room for nuance.
There's a poor attitude towards transit because we don't have a lot of quality transit. Why give up your automotive freedom and ride with the poors??? If only more people realized how freeing good transit actually is
