Digs at Canada 'don't necessarily represent the views of the folks in our town,' says mayor of Haines, Alaska

Things have gotten a little weird lately with the U.S. and Canada, but one small-town mayor in Alaska hopes his town can still be Valentines with its neighbours across the border in the Yukon.

Mayor Tom Morphet of Haines, Alaska, penned a love letter of sorts this week and sent off a copy to his counterparts in nearby Haines Junction, Yukon and Whitehorse on Wednesday.

It says the Haines Borough wants to "reaffirm a relationship of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance" with those Yukon communities.

The answer is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_States_presidential_election_in_Alaska#Results , and, while I can't isolate Haines, I note that overall, the GOP vote was up, and the Democrats down. I guess they didn't think it would come back to bite them then.

Thanks. I also found this https://www.elections.alaska.gov/results/24GENR/HD3.pdf which lists Haines 1 and Haines 2.

That is a screenshot of the Harris/Walz vote, 44% and 42%.

Trump/Vance was 49% and 50.5%.

So, yeah.
