German sales were down by a massive 76.3% last month, with Australia posting a similar 71.9% decline

Sorry, are you really just going to deny the many crimes taking place at gas stations?

Once your battery is empty you're in for a long wait.

Your battery should never be empty. With modern charging tech it's usually ~15 mins. at a fast charger to go 10-80%. The car is usually ready before me.

Plus the chances of your card being cloned with a chip and pin machine in a shop are so close to zero

You're out of your depth. This still happens all the time.
