This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

At this point in time we can probably consider the vast majority of Reddit mods as power tripping, with the small minority looking for exits like [email protected]
Maybe crosspost this to [email protected] to keep track?
I find the moderation on r/privacy especially pernicious because the moderator creating and enforcing these rules also has footing on the Fediverse - they moderate the FOSStodon server.
Not really a problem. Unlike Reddit, no instance is required to federate with them, and any user can block them individually. On top of that, if users don't like how their instance is managed or moderated, they can leave for another one that is (or even self-host).
It's why we have multiple Privacy communities on Lemmy. No one person can lay claim to a topic or hold users hostage. There's always an alternative.
So long as they're upholding Fediverse conduct codes, I don't have a problem with them having a foot or their entire body here.
Based on their stances against various minorities, and their constant activity on Reddit defending Elon Musk, I don't think they uphold the standards FOSStodon says they triumph. And I don't think the administrators of that site are aware of it.
But that's a post for a different time.
A couple notes for later though:
Here's the same moderator on r/Mastodon, which they moderate, complaining about people who don't like Elon Musk.
Here is the moderator endorsing a law that forces teachers uncloset transgender children
Here is the moderator defending the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil
Doesn't sound too great. There are, unfortunately, Conservatives on the Fediverse who think that they deserve to be here, with their dangerous, bigoted views, alongside the rest of us.
Good to stay watchful and not pretend like they can't influence the Fediverse.
Right, and they have the capability to create and moderate their own servers however they see fit. I just don't think it's appropriate for them to moderate servers that take a reasonable stance against bigotry.
For example, here is the FOSStodon page about their moderators:
It then goes on to list carrotcypher as a moderator.
This is especially concerning because carrotcypher has previously been more covert about their opinions and moderation decisions until approximately January this year.
You can always message the instance admin. Seems like you have some receipts, so at the least, they'll have some data points they can use as they deem appropriate.
Damn
It's fine, they don't moderate any of [email protected] or [email protected]
The ml servers should be avoid though since ml has many problems with censorship, power-tripping, and pushing an agenda.
