More to the point, that rhetoric is in blatant bad faith.

Liberals: "Vote blue no matter who!"

Progressives: "Okay, let's run some progressive candidates and y'all can vote for them with us."

Liberals: "No, not like that!"

Except they can't even be that honest; they'll say "BuT PrOgReSsIvEs CaN't WiN" without even the slightest hint of realization or self-reflection that the votes the progressive would be missing are theirs.

Fuckin' lying hypocrites, all of them.

To be fair, the last time the DNC got behind a progressive candidate for president, Nixon won like 48 states and it hasn't really recovered since. It's not hard to see why they are still in fear of that event. The issue seems to be the rotting shrubbery infesting politics from a lack of term limits.
