When I was in college, I remember one of my profs telling me that so many students submit assignments just before the 12am deadline. I always thought it was madness that someone would play it that close to the deadline, but people do.
hi that's me, i was one of the many students. usually at least 30min before though as we often got warned that the submission servers could be slowed down around the deadline itself so i didn't want to risk it
why? adhd. i am close to incapable of starting a task if it's not urgent. it's not fun but forcing my brain to not do that is actual hell
Yeah I literally can’t arse myself to do anything unless it’s within the bare minimum time left.
Which sucks because when I know I can do something easily, I end up giving myself even less time.
I have ADHD too. The trick is to trick your brain into thinking it's urgent by training yourself to have anxiety anytime there is a looming deadline.
Worked great for me and I got a 4.0 in engineering. But now I have anxiety issues.
friend, that- that's not a trick, that's the adhd defealt
The smart students do a little bit of the paper each day (research / outlining / etc).
The not as smart students try to cram it in all at once.
I know because I’ve been both.
Well done, lumping neurodivergent students in with “not as smart” students 😑
Theoretically, turning in near the deadline gives time for one more editing session. The assignment could have been done days prior. Theoretically.
I didn't do that because I wanted to. I just struggle to do anything important without a looming deadline. It sucks. I wrote a 25 page paper in a single night once and it was miserable (the experience, not the paper - the paper got an A).
I'm trying to prep for a move right now and it's like I'm paralyzed. I know I should do the thing but I can't seem to make my body do it, so I just sit and hate myself.
Stop using hate to focus.
