newpipe for android and firefox+ublockorigin for the desktop.

https://newpipe.net/

Youtube without these is unusable.

I use a fork of newpipe which just includes sponsorblock. It's nice.

uBlock Origin, SponsorBlock and 2x video speed are all requirements to prevent Youtube from being a brain drain

No ads for me in YT with the Vivaldi inbuild adblocker, but anyway I prefer to use front-ends, like CloudTube, Yewtube and mainly Piped. FreeTube in PC desktop and in Android the own front-end in the Vivaldi browser, where I don't need the YT app of Android.

Is Vivaldi adblocker comparable to UBlock Origin? I always meant to try Vivaldi, but the absence of UBlock Origin discouraged me.

The ad and trackerblocker of Vivaldi is customizable, you can add the filterlists you want, also these from uBO. In the Privacy settings, also white list the pages you don't want to block, in PC and also in mobile.

Thanks! A followup: do you know why there is no Flatpak for Vivaldi (at least I can't see anything).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't know if there is one, iI use Windows. But I think that if there are not flatpack, it will come in the near future, because of the user requests Vivaldi is only a small team and there are more than 4000 feature requests in the list, some of them are more important than others, f.Exmpl. a iOS version, because of the restrictive conditions of Apple, very hostile against devs from other companies, needs a developement from scratch. Anyway I think that Vivaldi is in the catalogue of most distros, until now, in two of them is even the default browser (FerenOs and Manjaro)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just installed and giving it a try (yes it was is the distro repos, there is also a AUR for it).

UBO is also in the Chrome store for Vivaldi PC, if you prefer it, but Vivaldi mobile until now don't accept extension, this will come in next updates, until now this is only in the snapshot version.

Anyway sorry for the blister in your scrollfinger, because of the settings page in the desktop version 😁

I recommend to create an account, it's free, and apart of giving you full access to the community forum for the support, encrypted end2end sync service, free mail account and a blog for your private use.

it's pretty good, but I feel like I need a full weekend to fully customize it :)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

😂Yes, the configuration in Vivaldi can be overwhelming for some, but the work is worth it. It really allows you to adjust it to the millimeter to your personal needs, handlings and tastes Nothing to do with any other browser on the market.

I still need to get some block ists from my uBlock Origin config to vivaldi. There are still too many banners everywhere :)

You can find these in GitHub https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock

Not just YouTube but internet in general is unusable without uBlock Origin.
