Just thought I would share my N64 collection with the retro gaming community on Lemmy. Let me know if you have any questions.

As a 40-year-old I, logically, understand that the N64 is pretty old now. But at the same time I am deeply offended this is how I learned about this Retro Gaming group

I'm 36. It's going to be ok.

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

NO ITS NOT :(

[–] skullone@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

You just made it worse ☹️

1/10 because Perfect Dark and Goldeneye don't have pride of place on the top shelf next to Majoras Mask. Epic fail move right there.

But also, why do you have so many identical copies of the same games? What's the point, or are they different region copies?

[–] hungry_freaks_daddy@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I had the same question. If I had to guess, I’d say they buy bundles of games often, where the bundle includes a game they already have but 4 games they also want. The price is right and the condition is good so why not? If a cart ever fails you have a backup right there. If the value goes up (likely) you can sell one of the copies down the line.

Edit: nvm, op replied here

Yeah it’s flea market strategy. If you try to buy one game, non-knowledgeable flea market seller thinks that game must be valuable, jacks the price up, puts it on display. But if you act like it’s just a box of old games, haggle them down on it like you just want some old games for your old system.

Hard to tell towards the bottom but if you've got Worms Armageddon, it goes for quite a bit these days (I'll never sell my copy though! Precious memories)

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 7 points 2 years ago

That is not one I have. It is expensive!

Copies in good condition are rare. Seller’s market

What's the most you've spent on a single game?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 7 points 2 years ago

The most I have paid for a game so far is $80 and this is my Not for Resale Majora's Mask

[–] TheLunchboxGuy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Beautiful collection. Whats with the empty cartridge boxes?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 5 points 2 years ago

They are placeholders for games I may buy in the future

Well, those empty parts aren't going to fill themselves!

Real talk tho, very impressive. Hope you have a cool set up to play them with.

I have my childhood N64 that I've reshelled and HDMI modded.

[–] AlgonquinHawk@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is the HDMI mod just to allow it to play on modern TVs or does it also upscale?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 5 points 2 years ago

It's the Pixel FX kit. It upscales directly from the video chip

[–] executive_chicken@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Didn’t know that Episode I Racer had a blue cartridge 🤔

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 5 points 2 years ago

It was a Limited Run Games release

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's a nice collection! Just seeing that gives me so many feels.

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 4 points 2 years ago

A lot of great memories

[–] bigwag@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Vigilante 8?!? Not sure if I see it there but that was a favourite of mine. Nice collection

Anything missing from the collection or is it complete?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 3 points 2 years ago

I've got a long way to go. I have just over 100 to go.

[–] NuclearNoggin@lemmy.fmhy.ml 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

really awesome collection. what’s your favorite couple games to play?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 5 points 2 years ago

Majora's Mask will always be my all time favorite.

[–] BroBot9000@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Damn dude! Very nice

[–] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wow, what a collection. Out of curiosity, do you back up the games you own in case the battery dies or something happens to the cartridges?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have ROM backups of the games but I'm not really concerned about the saves.

[–] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah. At that point you can just rely on save states.

[–] helloharu@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I was never into N64 growing up but I really have to appreciate this stunning collection.

[–] thracia@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Still missing Mischief Makers or is it somewhere that I’m not seeing? That’s one of the best remaining games on the 64 that I’m not seeing here.

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 3 points 2 years ago

I don't have that one yet

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 4 points 2 years ago

To rabbithole, I can't reply to you for some reason I get an error but they are variants, either gray variants of a colored cartridge or players choice.

[–] skullone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Aw man, this made me miss my N64. I'm going to bring it back out and give it some love.

[–] StayBuoyant@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Damn good job

[–] eric 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

2 questions:

  • Why did those games at the bottom not deserve a clear plastic case?
  • What are your favourite games that are not the usual suspects?
[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 4 points 2 years ago

Those are just duplicates, they will probably get sold eventually. A really fun game that I like is Space Station Silicon Valley. Fun fact, there is a bug in the game that makes it where you can't pick up a specific item so you can't 100% the game. I believe that there were carts released with a fix but it's not really talked about so I'm not sure. Anyway, there is a patch for the ROM that fixes the bug so I suggest playing that if you can if plan to 100% the game.

Is that a mostly complete collection? What percentage would you say?

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I would say around 65% or so. I've got a long way to go.
