The New Sound by Geordie Greep though this was a stellar year for albums imo and it's hard to pick just one
Agree with the whole comment but yeah I love every song of The New Sound, especially The Magician. Also I "discovered" black midi at the beginning of the year and was sad to learn they splitted, thankfully Greep released this masterpiece.
Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation.
Songs of a Lost World by The Cure
Ooh another opportunity to yell from the rooftops how great "Nobody Loves You More" by Kim Deal is! :) Honestly a fully fantastic album that I love. :)
"Romance" by Fontaines DC was another brilliant one!
ooh and the new Cure album!
A friend of mine put on that Kim Deal album for me the other day when we were talking about albums that came out this year. I’ve only heard it the one time so far, but agree it was great!
Still haven't listened to the new Cure album. But Romance is probably my AOTY. Nobody Loves You More is great.
The only "real" album that came out in 2024 that I listened to start-to-finish was Hyperdrama by Justice. It got a lot of flak online for being "uninspired" etc etc, but I think that mostly speaks to how great their first two studio albums were. The opening track on this one features Tame Impala and has an equally awesome music video.
After that, second place would be a tie between two 2024 live albums: ¡Blow it … at Madison's Quinceañera! by Me First and The Gimme Gimmes and Beast of Horns by They Might Be Giants. I got the latter on vinyl for Christmas and it's a lot of fun if you're a fan.
Hey someone else who likes Justice and They Might Be Giants!
Missed that they had a new album, thanks!
CHROMAKOPIA
- Do Not Go To War With The Demons Of Mazandaran by Lowen.
- Erosion / Avulsion by Hidden Mothers
- Bloom & Decay by Dawn Treader
- Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation
- Hellfenlic by The Infernal Sea
Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay, though almost shared 1st place with Charli XCX' BRAT remix album.
Definitely a tie between Where Have "All The Merrymakers Gone?" (Harvey Danger), "Example" (Four Squirrels), and "Four" (Blues Travelers). Definitely my most played and favorite albums of 2024.
As of this year, it's looking like "Ten Thousand Fists" (Disturbed) is taking the lead as my favorite. We could see an upset folks!
PowerNerd by Devin Townsend
The year just started, I haven't even had a chance to record my annual 12 Farts Of The Year yet..
They had a hard act to follow after their nearly perfect self-titled album, but Cure was almost as good, and that is mighty praise indeed.
Enjoyed 'Yesterwynde' by Nightwish a lot last year
All About the Bones by Chris Smither:

My favorite track:
I like this a lot. I've never had a record make me hungry before but gawdamn now I want that Cajun suppah.
He's got you covered!
Beans and okra would be just great right now. My wife made banging cabbage stew yesterday so Imma eat that.
The Poetic Edda by Synestia and Disembodied Tyrant
A Fortress Called Home by Seven Spires
Friko’s debut Album Where we’ve Been, Where we go from Here
Did not expect to see Friko in here but def agree that the debut is/ was awesome. Are you from Chicago? Has been fun to see them kinda explode over the past year or so.
Jimmy Clifton - Crucified in Christ Not your typical Christian album.
Porter Robinson - Smile!
Wavedash - Tempo
objectively "the new sound" by geordie greep
personally (as a mega fan of THD) "exploitopia" by that handsome devil
All born screaming by St. Vincent
The opera singer Lisette Oropesa's Mozart aria album. An absolute perfect voice with impeccable technique.
The Last Dinner Party's Prelude to Ecstasy.
NOTHING MATTAHS
Brat
Time II by Wintersun. It was a long wait, but I'd almost call it worth it, 'cause the album is so good.
definitely aura safari - sensory blending
Different pick from most, but I really enjoyed "SMILE! :D" by Porter Robinson. I might be biased though. Porter is my all time favorite artist.
I forgot SMILE :D released this year! Also a really great album!
It really is! Although I still believe nothing will beat Nurture. That's not just Album of the year, it's the GOAT.
It's She's Electric Girl for the 13th consecutive year! Wow, what a winner, can't wait to see who takes it next year!
The album that was released in 2024 that got the most plays was The Queen of Spades by Koan.
The album that I played the most was Unfold (2020) by Icarus
Matt's Missing by Matt Martians
Night Palace by Mount Eerie for me
Maybe seconded by The New Sound by Geordie Greep
"Real Death" will always be the first song I think about when hearing someone mention "Mount Eerie"
:( First you're there, and then you're not.
