See, both sides are the same.

One side certifies the election, while the other denies denies denies the election results for months fueling a fervor among their idiot base that culminates in an insurrection that causes millions in damage and deaths.

Same.

True, that implies it ended

Edited for clarification.

This is how adults are supposed to act.

Anyone else feel like giving fascists power makes us kinda like stupid af?

Idk, can't help but see how pathetic it is to consider this something to be proud of. It's like saying, "see, I finished everything on my plate!" when your plate was full of trash and shit when you relatively early could've said I'm not eating that /

I wrote to my senators and representative about the 14th amendment. I doubt anything is going to happen, but it's also all I could realistically do.

The people spoke and elected Trump.

Are you going to subvert democracy because you don't agree with the outcome?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can't think of anything more american than subverting democracy in an attempt to preserve future democratic freedoms 🐍🦅

Lincoln did it. He suspended habeas during the War.

Trump should be ineligible per the 14th amendment.

But also the Republican party is going to send everything down the shitter

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So it's okay for one side to just sit down and watch, while the other side literally does in fact subvert democracy?

You know who was democratically elected in Weimar all fair and square and it was the greatest time Europe ever saw?

Friedrich Ebert?

If we always listened to "The People" we would still have a king.

Aaaaaaaaand here we fucking are.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I clearly ain't doing shit either. Don't get me wrong.

I'm just saying let's start by not being proud of being, at best, disorganized and powerless, and weak cowards at worst.

Let's grieve properly. If we can get past denial, maybe we can then tap into some righteous fury in the people that support our cause(s).

Look at her, all innocent, thinking she's not going to end up in an oubliette somewhere within the next 3 months.

Of course, he beat her so badly he may be feeling magnanimous. Might even be grateful for knocking Biden out of the race, although he was probably not worried about Biden after that debate. Who knows?

I'll say that I'm disappointed, though. I'd have hoped that the last free election in the US would have been closer. The fact he won the popular vote really shot my faith in humanity all to hell.

She lost by 2 mill votes, Biden won with 7 mill in 2020, and she got more votes than Trump in 2020. I wouldn't say he beat her badly. It sucks nevertheless.

He's the first Republican president to run the popular vote in a decade, and one of two who have won the popular vote in something like the past 20. It has become de rigueur for GOP presidents to win only because of the unfairness built into the electoral college. Any Republican who wins both the electoral and the popular vote can fairly claim to have badly beaten their opponent -- as opposed to losing the popular and winning the electoral, which is beating your opponent badly (ha ha).

The playing field is not level for Democrats and Republicans. The GOP is running a cheat mode, and in generations has rarely won fairly. When they can win without it, I'd say that's a handy win.

Exhausted. But look on the bright side: only 1,458 days until we find out if we've really become a dictatorship!

She's still better than him.

That bar is so low it's impossible to trip over.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

That bar is so low it's gravitational field is dragging everything else down.
