Had a super deep but also at times heavy conversation with a family friend here about a family member we mutually know who has had a lot of troubles and is going through a really tough time readjusting to life after being institutionalised. As opposed to being sad and draining, it was a really invigorating and honest conversation despite the really intense emotions that came up at times... I feel alive because this is what life is about, it feels real.

really grateful for these conversations and being at a stage of my life where I can freely engage in them above the veneer of pleasantries that much of life consists of.

Maggie not complaining. Was out there when the thunder hit. All the other birds freaked out but not her. She's a professional.

Oh man, just noticed another neighbour's SUV is sitting their driveway with the sunroof open.

They're away for the weekend too. I threw some large plastic bags over it and taped it to the windows. Hope it holds.

Jelly. There’s a lot of room there for mulch

Have spent most of the afternoon getting all the Lego we own in the house for inventory. We have 3 sets which have never been opened, several almost completed sets (they were completed but bits fell off), most of the assembly books for the sets we have, and two additional 35L tubs choc full of Lego. There's a place that'll buy unsorted, preowned Lego by the kg. The kids have been sorting Lego from non-Lego and playing with it all afternoon. There's some we'll keep, but the rest has got to go. So many memories! I've been buying Lego for the kids for 10 years! It's basically 2 giant suitcases full and we need the money and lack the room.

Dutton also said the Coalition would increase the number of Medicare-subsidised psychological sessions from 10 to 20 β€œon a permanent basis”.

This should be Labor policy, though people should not be forced to stop seeing a psychologist after any length of time, if they still need it.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 weeks ago

This should be just Medicare policy, period. Same with dental, and same with everything medicine related really.

It finally happened. Had to pull a floater out of the bath last night. Can’t believe it took nearly 2 years to happen.

Bucketed on me and my friends head as soon as we set up chess pieces in the park. Then had to help her calm down to drive for the first time in rain, and it was severe with flooding streets etc. escalated quite quickly! I'm home safe now but the streets were fucked. Friend confident getting herself home after a pep talk

I'm patiently waiting for my neighbour to start watering his garden.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 weeks ago

Marge, babe, you couldn’t have waited five minutes?

It’s coming down in sheets and I’m soaked from head to foot, and I was only caught in it for two minutes

Everything is making me angry and sad, I've been trying to work out why as I recognise it's irrational.

Turns out, it's just my stupid uterus making itself the centre of attention again πŸ™„ such an attention seeker, it would fit right in with a mean girl clique lol

24 hours ago, I was lounging on a beach. This city is something else, eh?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago

Foghorns popping off left right and centre down here with boats going through the heads. Always an eerie noise. Makes you wonder how it would've felt going through pre-gps. Made me wonder how many perished. Turns out 50

Why does art take me so long. Why is it so scary. And why tf can’t I concentrate to learn the proper way of doing things.

I have learned how to divide the canvas into thirds/a grid and do a wire skeleton. But otherwise I basically just lock in and copy really closely by eye (and do everything out of order).

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Art is hard, I can imagine how many drafts famous artists made and tossed before making their masterpieces. It takes practice, sure, but patience with yourself is key I think. No one is born talented at painting, not really, just a lot of canvas/paper drafts that will never see the light of day.

They've done X-rays of Mona Lisa and found that Mr Da Vinci had a crack at it a few times, painting over it and doing it again, until he got it "right".

Warhol just liked contrast I think, that pop-art style. I'm not a fan, but he wouldn't have made those on the first go and displayed it.

Dali did his own damn thing and I want whatever he was taking - he's my favourite artist.

Kahlo was a legend - realistic yet surreal. But she would have had a bunch of canvas drafts and pieces that she didn't feel were good enough.

My point is, is that art is a basic human trait, and we all have the ability to create it, in one form or another. But rarely does anyone but the artist see the time and effort and the canvasses that weren't "good enough". I don't post my first draft of poems I write, I sit on them for weeks, sometimes months, until I feel it's "right". And besides, it may also be a case of just finding an art style that you click with - you may not think your Renaissance studies are good, but you might find you like surrealism, or realism, post-modern, maybe impressionism. Experiment and get messy with it - art is a reflection of our human-ness, and humans are messy.

Sorry for the text wall - I'm just really passionate about art in all it's forms (painting, cartoons, games, music, prose and poetry, even body modifications like what catfish posted, tattoos, piercings - all I consider art). I hope you don't give up - I think you can create something you'll be so proud of, and I'm already proud of you for what you have created and shared with us already. πŸ’œ

Good morning. I feel much more human today. I think I’ll go out

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

hey guys, back from a nice bbq out in the suburbs. The air there smells of trees. πŸ™‚

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I went out west and it smelled like poo until I got to my destination πŸ˜‚

But it's so quiet and full of nature and wildlife - utterly entrancing!

A local bakery here makes the best tiger rolls I've ever had and now when I have a different roll it seems mediocre.

Just a slow housework and gardening kind of day.

And I have another bag of stuff to take to the op shop, good stuff so I will take to the small shop, the one that does not extort buyers.

We went to the Diamond Valley miniature railway today for a birthday party. It's huge compared to Box Hill.

Fortunately we got the last ride out of the way before the rain came down and just had to do the rain under the gazebo whilst it really bucketed down. A memorable end to a great party

Shoulder is fine - still twangy but I overreacted. Taleya was right, I don't think it's my rotator cuff; I most likely just slept on it and didn't move for hours. I guess I am a bit of a hypochondriac, thanks mum πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

The exercises have helped so much though, anyway. Another wake-up call from the Universe to quit smoking and actually look after my health - mental and physical.

In other news, and maybe a controversial take, but Myer Briggs and Enneagram tests are so fucking bogus. People basing their worldviews on psycho-babble like that need a different kind of help. The only thing they're good for is self-relection, but only if one is self-aware enough to interrogate their own thought patterns objectively and fairly. Otherwise, they're just excuses for people to never grow or change. Hate that shit so damn much.

Good morning world, today I must kick my own arse into cleaning and not being a massive slob.

Tried yesterday and failed so we'll see how that goes

I’ve got the tennis on in the background while making dinner and all I hear from the kitchen is loud grunting and yelling. I’m doing my best imitation of it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

It's dark now. Considering putting on the lights.. Loving the thunder.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

Got woken up by the windy (outside!)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Skies darkening with thunder. It’s about to go down. A rainy indoor day is just what the doctor ordered too.

Edit - just got absolutely smashed with rain and house vibrating thunder, this storm’s angry
