Literally Lügenpresse. People need to get familiar with Hitler's playbook, cause that's the reality we're experiencing right now.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Oh we are familiar

If the other serious media have integrity, they should also remove themselves from any official event in the name of free speech (and future protection as that could happen to them later).

This is the only way to treat this kind of dangerous behavior.

They relatively recent consider themselves not as news, but entertainment

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Only relatively.

Sadly, it is not just Fox News that has made the claim that their shows are not news. In the same year, Rachel Maddow's lawyers successfully argued that her program is also not news.

And they were both telling the unvarnished truth for once. Billionaire-owned media aren't reliable sources for news.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Absolutely. It all started with Ted Turner and CNN. He very obviously viewed news as entertainment. Every story, no matter how small, was announced as Breaking News.

This is a bit of the classic "both sides being the same" argument. The first article you linked even calls it out.

In the Fox case, Carlson was presenting his own narrative, not even one extrapolating from known facts.

Maddow was like "hey this journalist is working for Putin and writing for OAN. OAN is Russian propaganda." When in reality, the journalist in question wrote for Sputnik News, which is affiliated with the Russian government. Granted it is a bit of a stretch to say all of OAN is Russian propaganda.

Carlson, on the other hand, just completely made up a story about Karen McDougal blackmailing Trump. A completely made up story.

So yeah, I wouldn't go saying both sides are the same here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

There is no "both sides" in for-profit news media. There's only corporations figuring out which the most profitable demographic for them is.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Yep, it's not Fox in general, that was only about Tucker's show.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

No they don't. They just say that for legal reasons.

[–] [email protected] 65 points 4 days ago (3 children)

There's a video where the press secretary basically says they will ban everybody that is telling 'lies'. I didn't know that asking questions as the press could now be considered lies but here we are. What a timeline we ended up in.

[–] [email protected] 54 points 3 days ago

If you don't propagate their lies, then they'll call you a liar.

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth." - 1984

He said he will ban Trump???

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Silly you. Trump holds the power to define facts and reality. It is literally impossible for him to lie. (Book of St. Donny, Chapter 4.12, probably)

The press secretary is a woman...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I could have figured out that Trump needs someone to grab by the pussy.

Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin are using trump and vance to install their vision of techno-authoritarianism and it's darker than you could ever imagine.

Always use a VPN. Swallow your pride and buy a trump bible off amazon for your front entry area. It's gestapo repellant. Yes, I'm serious.

After the immigrants, they're going to round up people on SSRIs and have them work the fields as part of their "reparenting" sentence. RFK just put it on the table officially.

Keep your head down, blend in, and live to fight another day. This won't be sustainable, but it's going to be painful and ugly before the year's out.

Project 2025 aims to suspend habeus corpus and deploy the military domestically by June 30th. Yes, I'm serious.

The same administration that was claiming that Europe is stifling the free speech. What hypocritics

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

the... remarkable... thing about this is the Trump administration probably thinks they're winning this.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Well…they kind of are. We are not seeing the kind of push and pull we saw last time trump was in office. We’re not really seeing the compounding buffoonery and constant chaos of an evil yet highly disorganized and stupid and largely solitary extremist right wing government.

We are seeing a largely accepted—if nothing else, ignored—well-funded, focused group of absolute death mongers who are powering this much larger boat with trump as the flag on top, but an elite crew of Chistofascists turning coal (yes, it’s a coal powered boat) into much more precise and damaging takeover of every single lever of power. And this is just one in a fleet of these types of ships taking off all around the world. This far right surge is not an isolated thing. This is happening worldwide and they are fucking ready to put their plans into action.

While we all took four years to decompress, they were becoming a much more ruthless and serious fascist machine. They are primed to make some scary moves and they don’t have nearly the amount of big dollar pushback and spotlight on them. They are manipulating the spotlight to focus on flashy trump nonsense while some truly fiendish motherfuckers are doing everything they can to fuck things up christofascismo style.

Be very much more worried about things that aren’t the “gulf of America.”

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Good. There's just about nothing useful that comes from the White House press brief. It's all propaganda as far as the eye can see.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I've known infants that don't act this infantile when people say things they don't approve of.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Substance misuse rots your brain and you become like a child. Emphasis on the word "like". No child will have similar lifetime of hate and malice coupled with insecurity and narcissism.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Very much so. Toddlers, who almost totally lack empathy, show more empathy.

If a toddler punches their friend and you tell them it's bad and they need to say they're sorry, they say they're sorry. And also feel bad about it even if they don't know why they feel bad about it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wtf? Substance use does not cause hate or Narcissistic behavior or any of that shit. That's not why they're evil.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess you have never watched a family member descend into meth abuse then.

Permanent personality changes such that trust is pointless, redemption is merely a faint hope, all motivations are underlaid with a new narcissistic set of delusions and denials.

Since I have watched this happen to three family members of distinct lineage and personality types, all of whom were pleasant and acceptably kind beforehand, my small sample size is nevertheless very convincing.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I am a recovering addict, genius. I have plenty of experience, speaking of myself as well as those around me, with meth and many other substances. Not every addict is like that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, should have clarified, meth can cause narcissistic behaviour, not hate. Other substances, no. All the alcoholics and heroin etc. addicts that I know or am related to or have worked with, were not fundamentally changed in character or even personality by the addiction. But chronic meth use, yeah. Big difference.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Heavy use of alcohol does cause gradual brain damage in the areas it affects. Frontal lobe, memory and motor centers taking the biggest hit. Actions become more selfish and impulsive, but not always violent or hateful. That really depends on the character beneath, but not always.

I know three lifelong alcoholics personally. All of them have the same delusion that they could have been something great, but there was a conspiracy to ruin them, by "the man" and they had no choice but to take the path they took. They feel very bitter and sometimes get in to crimes and violence just to rebel and give some payback to totally random recipient. It can be muggings, petty theft or repeated DUIs, because "fuck the man".

Then again I've met the sweetest childlike characters near the local drunk shelter that have slurred speech and walk funny with very small steps even when they are sober.

... so you never know.
