The thing about nihilism that some people dont seem to get is that if nothing matters, it matters equally as little if you do just do things and live your life as if you dont. Nihilism isnt a reason not to do anything just as much as it isnt a reason to do anything.

There’s also Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Can’t philosophize if you’re freezing to death.

Needs a name, like the "You haven't applied the same logic in the other direction" fallacy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager

Pascal's wager is a philosophical argument advanced by Blaise Pascal (1623–1662), seventeenth-century French mathematician, philosopher, physicist, and theologian.[1] This argument posits that individuals essentially engage in a life-defining gamble regarding the belief in the existence of God.

Pascal contends that a rational person should adopt a lifestyle consistent with the existence of God and actively strive to believe in God. The reasoning behind this stance lies in the potential outcomes: if God does not exist, the individual incurs only finite losses, potentially sacrificing certain pleasures and luxuries. However, if God does indeed exist, they stand to gain immeasurably, as represented for example by an eternity in Heaven in Abrahamic tradition, while simultaneously avoiding boundless losses associated with an eternity in Hell.[2]

Unfortunately, the actual scenario turns out to be that the Spider-Goddess is running the show, and that She rewards only Her beloved atheists with eternal pleasures in the afterlife and tortures for eternity in Her Web the heretics who adhere to Yahweh.

On the other hand, how am I supposed to believe in a god that is too stupid to know I only believe in it 'just in case'

From the Joss Whedon show Angel, of all things - "If nothing that we do matters, then all that matters is what we do."

Nature's way is for the grey squirrel to kill the brown squirrel and take the nuts.

Every fourth post on lemmy is the grey squirrel. Don't be the crack spider's bitch.

The people who need this message are unfortunately also the people who aren't going to understand this message.

Very similar to people who keep complaining about big companies and doing absolutely nothing themselves but consuming. "It's futile to do anything, I'll just find an excuse and complain". The problem is that their actions contribute to the shitty situation we all have to live in.

And just like that, the lefty squirrel understood then that capital had some uses that were not entirely evil. But he never admitted this to anyone, not even to himself.

Capital is not that which makes the food, my friend.

Every now and then a blind squirrel gets a backlog of inventory.
