What's your definition OP? I think I'm going with the textbook definition: Someone who posts deliberately offensive or provocative messages.
That would be the best way to explain my definition. Though that is the reason why so much of this confuses me. For a self-proclaimed Marxist safe haven, if the people of Lemmy were encountered with controlled opposition, everyone seems like they'd be ill-prepared to know what they're looking at.
Though the majority of this community isn't Marxist or Communist. The developers are, but major parts of the community hate it, and they migrated towards other instances... Which make the majority of Lemmy as of today. You just have to avoid lemmy.ml and lemmygrad (and hexbear)
I will not dig into this specific case because it's simply too much info that I'd need to know before saying "yup/nope, they're a/no troll". So, focusing in the question in the OP:
I define a "troll" as online community user with consistently disruptive behaviour, that griefs the experience of a meaningfully large proportion of the users of said community.
So, when applied to this case:
- Which community is the user allegedly trolling? "Lemmy as a whole", that instance, or a specific comm?
- How are they allegedly trolling it? Shitposting, off-topic, unnecessary adversative remarks...?
Hello, thought I'd add some clarification and context as OP's post is pretty long and difficult to read. OP is talking about this post, and is asking if the person the post is about, shinigamiookamiryuu, could be considered a troll.
It appears Shinigamiookamiryuu is known for doing controversial things across the internet on their various aliases, such as requesting a story being written of themselves and a forum member who they knew was 14 going on a date together.

They also downplayed Elon Musk's Nazi salute, and compared it to Pokemon:
What's wrong with ~~being adopted~~ using a comparison? Also I don't really doubt anymore that you're a troll, considering this is the third removed Lemmy account you are someone else is using to try to make her look bad, and the hundredth something ban evading Reddit account to either mock her or do as you're doing right now, with the replies on the X accounts being nothing but this crud. I can see why someone like Leni would lose faith in humanity seeing you hijack the minds of so many people.
It's not clarification if it doesn't give all the details. If we are to say this is a discussion about if what you are doing is considered trolling, you trying to repeat the very thing OP was asking about is out of place. Those who are banned should also take a hint, ban evaders are enough of an issue as is, whether or not they "mass downvote" things which are known to not attract a negative opinion under honest circumstances like is going on here.
Funnily enough, the exchanges you are trying to point to speak for themselves if only people actually look into them. One happened because people missed a beat and the other two are out of context. The fact you simply won't rest shows who the real antagonist is.
Obvious troll is obvious but "trolling" has been used against me too many times by lemmy.world mods because they did not like what I was dishing out.
