In the aftermath of more slow, dystopian, apocalypse shenanigans I'm trying meditations to slap a bandaid on my hemorrhaging mental health.

Seems like all I can find are slow ASMR style speeches about sunny fields and peachy angels, and I can't stand that don't-wake-the-baby talk. I'm not a baby.

I connected with one, lost to time, led by a guy with a chronic smoker's rasp who demanded inner peace. It was spiritually healing because I have a poor relationship with my father.

Please, friends, do you know any free, guided meditations that aren't condescendingly peaceful? That aren't trying to sell supplements or pitch their sponsors midway through?

PS. No posh london accents, they remind me of the king.

Something else like this is Insight Timer. They have paid content but you can safely ignore it and search for the kind of recording you want.

Personally I use Medito on Android. It has "courses" explaining different mediation techniques, but also a "daily" mode which allows you to set for how long do you want to meditate and with which voice guide. I think it also has a bunch of tracks for specific mediation techniques.

I like that it's free, you don't need an account, and there's variety. The voices seem AI-ey but whatever, I did a seven minute meditation with "Will" and no longer care who's a robot.

I don't think any of the voices are AI. Will is a real person for sure, he runs a pinball place :)

And now I need to get a pinball machine. Thanks, I was trying not to spend money.

I use Healthy Minds. Free, no ads.

Not quite what you asked for but Balance has amazing tracks and offers 1 year free. There are 2 voices to choose from, and tons of different scenarios to work from.

Does somebody know something in german?

I like Mooji's vids.on youtube. They are pretty long though, in case you're only looking for 5 minute sessions.

"Just let it go. Stop. Do it." This is what I need.

PM me and I'll give you a free month to the Waking Up app or alternatively message the support there and ask for a free subscribtion and they'll give you one for a year and then you can ask again next year.

Warning this is Sam Harris app

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And why do people need to be warned of that for?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Probably for his media around the subjects of islam, race and gender.

This is one of the more balanced pieces I can find on the issue since it cites sources - and though this editor and Harris are in a feud, Klein links to Harris's rebuttal on his own website. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/27/15695060/sam-harris-charles-murray-race-iq-forbidden-knowledge-podcast-bell-curve

Well, rest assured. This is a meditation app - he doesn't share his political opinions in there. He has a podcast (and substack) for that for which he'll also give anyone a free subscription to in case they want to look into this controversy and hear from the original source rather than from the famously anti-Sam Harris reporter, Ezra Klein

You're why I need to meditate.
