Montana is redder than the devil’s dick, so fuck em. Try fentanyl.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

I hope putin doesn't nuke us starting in Montana, that precious Gloryhole of wonder.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 19 hours ago

Maybe don't vote republican next time, you mouth-breathing imbeciles.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 21 hours ago

But I thought the tariffs were going to be paid for by Canada? Right? Right?

How do these fucking twits believe anything that the Republicans tell them? If you bet against everything that comes out of their mouths, you'd end up as rich as they're trying to get.

Aw, those poor poor Trump supporters. What a terrible misfortune to have befallen them.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Looks like the 20 sane people in that state need to move immediately for their own safety and well being.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I'm good. There may be Trumpers around but there's more space between me and them than just about anywhere else. Republicans are saner here than most other places as well. Not sane, but less insane.

Republicans are saner here than most other places as well.

Isn't your current sitting GOP Governor the one that physically attacked and body slammed a reporter from the Guardian newspaper when the reporter asked your, now Governor, a question about healthcare policy? source

Quotes from that source:

  • Fox News reporter Alicia Acuna, field producer Faith Mangan and photographer Keith Railey witnessed the incident at Gianforte’s campaign headquarters in Montana, according to an account published on the Fox News website. After Jacobs asked Gianforte his question, Acuna wrote: “Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him.

  • “Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of ‘I’m sick and tired of this!’ … To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff’s deputies.”

Oh, and all of this was before he was elected. Your neighbors saw all of this and now he's your Governor.

Yes that's correct. It's also the place where Republicans recently rejected some anti-trans laws, which they could have easily passed, after an impassioned speech from a trans representative that we also recently elected. Things aren't always black and white.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

after an impassioned speech from a trans representative that we also recently elected. Things aren’t always black and white.

First, I applaud that the legislature rejected the anti-trans legislation, but did you listen to the speech yourself? If not, I recommend it. Its less than 10 minutes.

The tact the representative took wasn't a impassioned speech defending the rights of trans folks on moral grounds (which is a very valid argument in my opinion anyway). It was a brass tacks presentation how people that weren't trans could get caught up in the legislation and be negatively affected. I don't believe the legislature rejected the bill because it would protect trans folks, they did it because it would hurt non-trans folks. As in, it was written too vaguely and wasn't targeting *only * trans folks. I think it was smart of the legislator that gave that speech because they presented an argument they new their ultraconservative colleagues would agree with. I don't fault them for making those points in that way. They were successful in getting the bill defeated. In my mind, that's worth it, however if a new bill is introduced with tighter language I believe the Montana legislature would absolutely pass an anti-trans only bill.

Wait. Now, reading the article is not enough? I need to listen to a 10min speech? /s

In Missouri we have the opposite issue. Our government officials are all batshit insane but we vote liberal on ballot initiatives. None of it makes much sense.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago

Ohio is the same. Congress attempted to block us from legalizing abortion then changed the language on our legalization of pot to move the tax money from DEI to cops? Sure why not reelect them

[–] GreyEyedGhost 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder if this is an indoctrination issue. Kind of like how many people were against Obama care, but the loved the ACA. This could be, "You don't vote for the abortion-legalizing Dems!" but you give them a ballot measure they have to read and assess and they give a reasonable response.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago

You say that. And they'll do that. But then these people will look you in the eye and legalize abortion while calling you a baby killer

Republicans are saner here than most other places as well. Not

"the pit vipers in this apartment are wayyy less aggressive than most other pit vipers so I consider it a plus"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You joke, but wouldn't you prefer a less aggressive snake if you had no choice but to live with a snake?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 19 hours ago

So Charlie, you don't have to eat chicken beaks at all.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm sure the German Jews thought that about their neighbors for a hot minute too.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 22 hours ago

I understand the situation at hand. I don't understand what you're suggesting I do though. There are Republicans everywhere in America. There is no place to move to get away from them. I don't really want to either. I'll tell them their ideas are ridiculous until they lock me up or kill me. I'm not running away from the fascists. That's how they win.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Same here! One of the only places in the US where a gay couple can defend their Marijuana plants with guns legally. Plus we just re-affirmed abortion access in our state constitution not long ago. Really, most of us just don't like people telling us what we can and can't do.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 13 hours ago

One of the only places in the US where a gay couple can defend their Marijuana plants with guns legally.

As a European, this sentence sounds crazy.

Why does it even later that you are gay? Why do you need a gun to defend your pot?

https://worldpopulationreview.com/states/montana

There's less than 1k people in some of those deep red counties, and they are extremely isolated. I'm not excusing the fact that many of the voters here are republican, but much of the state doesn't even have cell phone service. They've never had a reason to change how they think, and yes it's disgusting to hear some of their views. I just wish I knew how to get people to open their eyes to more than the tiny towns their families have lived in for generations

Schweitzer said the Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations.

Like so many Republicans, be didn't have a problem with what's being done, just with the way it's implemented.

However, a bipartisan bill could help manage more tariffs from being added. The Trade Review Act of 2025 would require the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of imposing or increasing a duty on imported goods, including an explanation and assessment of its impact on U.S. businesses and consumers.

A) That's not going to do anything; and B) the Republicans already signed a bill last month, saying that the entire rest of the year is one day long explicitly so they wouldn't have to do anything about the tariffs.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 18 hours ago

Yeah. They're fine with fucking everyone else over. It's when it's them that is being fucked they have a problem.

Too bad, so sad, get fucked.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

B) the Republicans already signed a bill last month, saying that the entire rest of the year is one day long explicitly so they wouldn't have to do anything about the tariffs.

This is the first I've heard of this. Wtf?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 19 hours ago

Trump imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China by declaring illegal migration and fentanyl constituted a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the National Emergencies Act. [Under] the NEA, Congress has the authority to move quickly to terminate that emergency declaration. [...] The section reads, "Each day for the remainder of the first session of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day for purposes of section 202 of the National Emergencies Act with respect to a joint resolution terminating a national emergency declared by the President on February 1, 2025." Source

Which means that the only people (afaik) who could have ended the 'national emergency' that he's using for a lot of his declarations, signed that power away for this next year. Meaning he's going to spend this next year dismantling the rule of law and ensconce himself as emperor.

Fuckem. From a patriotic American who wants to see trump voters fucking starve.

Unfoortunately, it says prices (presumably domestic) dropped though - that should be good for US consumers, all else equal.

I'd expect the people in Montana to have more/cheaper food in general at least in the short term. Farmers might make less profits, but even if they are making a short term loss - you'd expect them switch to a lower cost crop rather than stop production entirely.

In this case it is the Canadians that suffer lower food supply.

In the long run Montana food supply might suffer if their farmers struggle to get say fertiliser, pesticides, seed crops, bull semen, tractors and so on - that depends on their supply chain for those things.

Lower income might also impact the state's general ability to import other stuff, exotic foods and luxuries, but as far as domestic food is concerned I'd think they'd be ok.
