Bugger. House is a no, I've withdrawn my application. The current tenant was there and very informative. Cooling is broken and the landlord has been refusing to fix it, heating is a bit dodgy too. Looks like they bought it 7 years ago and failed to do even the bare minimum maintenance since then.

So back to square 1 ☹️

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

When legal requirements like heating are not functional what are the duties of a REAs?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

It's an urgent repair that should have been done ASAP. The fact that it's not done, plus the fact the agent is not even on top of what type of heating and cooling are in the property, is a major red flag.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Sounds like you managed to dodge a bad one there.

Maybe you need Mr Woof to sniff out the bad ones.

I have landed in the Soup. Say what you will about this place, you gotta give kudos to Changi airport - 15 minutes from deplaning to cab. Was expecting to wait for my bags - nope, merrily halfway down the conveyor belt along with its fellow passengers. And I got to use the completely passportless lane for citizens/residents.. it's almost freakishly fast (like 2 seconds total kind of fast). A good reminder of how biometrics are harder to hack than a passport. They probably have every inch of my face mapped out.

Anyway, can't wait to have a big sumptuous dinner and then crash early. I finished the last 5% of Overstory on the plane and got all riled up about what my life has become. Then I reread Howl's Moving Castle because I had it on my Kindle. Now I feel less cynical.

yay, you arrived safely

hope your stay is joyous πŸ™‚

Got through to bag drop with 10 minutes and 1kg to spare. Just waiting to board now... whew! I'm lucky I managed to take all these other goodies including fresh loaves from Woodfrog.

I hate these cattle class flights to the Soup, so many people who can't follow instructions and mill around in queues trying to board first even though there's a strict sequence

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

ee that's good timing.

Safe travels!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

yes, safe travels 😘

In case I’m not the last person to know, three out of three medical professionals recommended Coca Cola for removing a piece of dinner lodged in my throat. It took a couple of hours, but it worked. 10/10 would recommend but also 0/10 would definitely not recommend.

Also, I discovered that Bayswater has a 24 hour urgent care clinic underneath Coles. In case you didn’t know.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That sounds horribly unpleasant, I'm glad the cola solution worked.

That urgent care clinic was the one I went to for my finger impalement. The last time I was in Bayswater that entire building didn't exist, it was all quite a surprise.

Yes, dark soft drinks often contain phosphoric acid and so can help break up bezoars or flush blockages in feeding tubes too.

I hope you’re alright now

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

I’m better, thanks and thanks also for the info. I ended up at Box Hill before the coke finally worked. The doctor had just given us the update that the fast track wait time was out to 2 hours and recommended that I just keep sipping it.

Down the bellarine again.

Still have the leak that the plumber couldn't find but getting close! So have to run down the block and turn the tank water on and off after use. 1 minute showers :( Filling buckets for watering, washing clothes by hand in the sink, flushing the dunny every 2nd time.

Reminds me of stage 4 water restrictions back in the day with the millennium drought. Only difference is back then used to also bring a bucket into the shower and keep grey water from the rare use of the washing machine for plants. Those were the days.

Really makes you appreciate running water that works unlike a lot of the world.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Watch out for Bucket Back! The physios did well out of the drought.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

I've been gardening this morning and lamenting over how dry it is. And it brought back my own memories of establishing the garden here during that drought and i remember standing in buckets in the shower to catch every last drop.

Anyone living a bit more rural?

I have a bottle of wolf urine previously acquired to deal with a fox issue at the old place. I do not have a fox issue at the new place and consequently I do not need a bottle of wolf urine at new place. I do not want a bottle of wolf urine at new place, which has all its storage in the basement.

Please come take my wolf urine πŸ™

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (3 children)

How exactly does the wolf urine get in the bottle? That would not be a fun job.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

First you have to catcha the wolf

Then you have to patta the wolf

I'm not sure about the bottle part

And then you have to getta yourself to the ED.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Funnel yadda yadda yadda bottled wolf piss.

There are more foxes in urban areas than rural. There was one on top of my shed last night in fact. I do not however want a bottle of wolf urine to deal with it 🀣

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I am in need of a possum deterrent, but also do not want a bottle of wolf urine. The down sides of such a substance massively outweigh the possibility it might work.

Smiths thin & crispy chips - sour cream and chives flavour - my intellect knows that this is not a proper meal, but my stomach begs leave to differ. Maybe the glass of wine has impaired my stomach's judgment.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Had another crap sleep. I'm so tired today.

Also need to make another trip to get a beanie, lost mine recently and it's going to be cold next week.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Gawd I’m so tired already

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

I'm over it, all these short weeks. Knocks my pay too much and the production schedule is all out of wack.

I called the medical clinic to see if they were running on time before I made my way there. As I hate waiting around, like most people. Was told to turn up at appointment time as doctor was running in time. Only one person ahead of me apparently. 30 mins after appointment, have still not been seen. Why do I bother.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Heaps of reasons.

It turns into a cascade. They might have a patient(s) before you where the consult is more complex and needs more time. Which leads to more paperwork before the next. Your problem might be more complex and so on. Then some might overbook due to no shows (pretty common in rona times), also sometimes greed from the doctor. Sometimes poor management from the secretary.

If the cascade starts early in the day, the poor souls at the end of the day (including doc and staff)...

Bitch, you don't need all these pants!

I've tried on about 15 so far.

If anyone was thinking of popping in to Northcote Plaza this morning, don't. The Aldi carpark is closed- lots of caution tape- and the rest of the joint is bedlam. Super busy and the main carpark has a real chaotic, angry energy. There were actual fights breaking out.

I only wanted to return my overdue library books!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Park behind the library next to the housing commission - you can get in through the driveway on the left of the library/medical centre from Separation St. Pain to get in and out but unlikely to be cordoned off as on the other side of Sep St.

I'm failing to taste any chocolate from my Cadbury Crunchy Chocolate Easter Bunny. It's taken me two goes at eating his ears and all I taste is sugar. I don't think it's me.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Careful now. With 2 partial ears it might be able to still hear you. Try the feet next so it won't chase you.

But yea cadbury has gone downhill for a while now :(

I thought of a fun idea for the trip back: girlfriend takes the train up to Shepparton, we meet her there when we get there, do the handover and the boys can take the train to Donnybrook where I'll meet up with them to finish the trip back.

They get to see mum again, ride a train, and they're not strapped down for the last leg of the ride

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

Operation de-clutter continues today. I wonder what buried treasures I'll find.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

This is a nice night.

If it rains tomorrow that'd be amazing.

Goodnight all ❀️

You'd think I'd have plenty of time with a flight departing at 12 noon but somehow I left things til the super last minute. Have checked in online but ETA is 20 minutes prior to bag drop closing... Thoughts and prayers that there's no crashes or bad traffic on the way 😭

I had to pack A LOT into that short week, somehow it felt more stressful. Time to relax. Rushed to Dans before they closed to buy a bottle of scotch to enjoy over ice tonight.
