Wasn't ark a free game before? Balatro will be a boon for many. It's great. I've only played on mobile, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it differs on a different play format.

From Wikipedia, Ark: Survival Ascended is a remaster of the 2015 game Ark: Survival Evolved. It has been in early access since 2023.

Ah, so a new old game that has and hasn't been free before. Great value. I'm sure but fans are happy.

I am sure fans have already played it. I am personally not a fan of these games, but wouldn't mind giving it a try for an hour or so to see what I am missing, who knows, maybe I end up liking it.

Like so many other ps+ games. I find I'm rarely wrong and don't enjoy the ones I expect not to.

Heh, I agree with you, but there are some genre and franchises I have stayed away from, so it's sometimes a good way to try them without spending money. At worst, you have confirmation that it's not for you and can ignore them without any worries in the future, and sometimes your are pleasantly surprised.

Yes, I do dip my toes too. Sometimes even if it's not for me, it's good to see if I like the genre as a another game that interests me in that genre might or might not be worth it.

I actually upgraded to deluxe before the price rise as one game on it I planned to purchase and the cost was the same. The trials are a nice idea but a bit of a waste. An hour in a game these days is mainly tutorial.

I went the opposite way, started with Premium, then downgraded to Extra, and when the price increased, downgraded to Essential.

With how much I play, Extra doesn't seem like worth it anymore. Essential is still good cause I have a previous backlog, and get enough games throughout the year that keeps it worth the price. Not to mention occasionally want to play a multi-player game and it requires PS+.

I play street fighter 6 daily. I only subscribe to ps+ for online play for it. If I didn’t have a game I wanted in deluxe, I would have stayed on essential. I only upgraded as the price was equivalent and I figured I’d get some other games in the meantime. I’ll go back to essential once the prepayment is finished.

I’ll never buy another console. Ridiculous to have such a high ongoing cost for online play of a game I paid a premium for. A lot of the games I supposedly own while continuing to subscribe have disappeared, which makes the value proposition even worse.

Yeah, makes sense, if there are a few games in higher tier that you want, then upgrading makes sense.

I grew up playing on a weak PC, so had half of the games won't even run on it, and this apparently left some psychological scars 😀 . I like consoles, cause you buy one box, and for next 7 or so years, you can play everything that gets released (on the platform). No worrying if your system can run it or not, not feeling left out cause you can only run it on Medium with shadows at low, no fiddling with drivers and so on.

So, I'll probably stick with consoles, unless Steam releases a nice Steam box, which works like console (like Steam Deck, but home-console type). Not sure if that will make me switch too, but that is when I would really have to think what I should do.

Yes, me too. However, I think those days are gone. And the subscription fatigue is real.

I love how they put Ark as the highlight here when pretty much everyone, including myself, is way more excited for Balatro.

I've had Balatro on a trial of Apple Arcade for the last couple months and enjoyed it - though I feel like I hit a wall not knowing how to improve my score. That trial is due to end next week, so this PS+ announcement has come at the right time! Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's a way to transfer my save.

Maybe starting from zero will help you discover things that will make you cross that wall!

You gotta branch out and try new joker combos you're not used to. It's easy to get stuck in a rut and keep building the same kind of deck. At least for myself, I always gravitate towards a full house set up if I put my mind on autopilot.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Ahh ok, I'll give that a go! I was definitely going towards the same couple of setups each time.

Balatro is awesome. I'm excited to play Boltgun, which I held out on buying until the price dropped but I'll absolutely take it for free! Couldn't care less about Ark. 2/3 decent games isn't bad, gotta be one the of the best free game months in a long time.

Balatro feels more like a handheld game, but since I haven't tried it yet, happy to get it in the subscription.

I've put like 100+ hours in on PS5, it works as a console game for sure!
