Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

MODERATORS

But the advantage is that Lemmy allows Tor. 😅

Voyager enhances his effect by counting your votes on individuals. You start seeing people with big numbers.

Less anonymous, but more effectively pseudonymous =)

Lemmy is also not overrun by AI bots and sock puppets.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everyone here is my alt, except you.

There are only two real users on Lemmy, its just you and me. Get pranked!

What happened to FlyingSquid

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

IIRC, they were having some health issues. It’s possible that it likely got too overwhelming, and they took time away from Lemmy to focus on their health.

Look at it this way, in a small town people are more likely to be kind and offer higher quality information when asked. The same things can be said about lemmy.

Also, blocking people you don't like is far more effective.

It feels like Reddit felt twenty years ago

It's the same with every small forum tbh

As for posting stuff on the internet, I don't care anymore. I just try to not post stupid shit, and be decent to other people.

Thats exactly why I am using lemmy exclusively for brand awareness

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago

Oh, you fewer less users

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (6 children)

your privacy is worse on lemmy. anyone can access all your comment and post upvotes and downvotes. your pms are open for server admins to read. both examples need to be fixed imo

[–] Mongostein 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

People DM each other on Lemmy?

You look at usernames? I've never done that here or on Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Even without usernames. There is some people i recognize by topic, opinion and the way they express themselves. If you spend too much time here that isn't difficult.

I get around that problem by simply never looking at your usernames

It's impossible to delete anything on the internet. You can't control everybody's backups.

Some people here have a really huge effect. Guys like Stamets, The Picard Maneuver, and MicroWave, I see their posts all the time.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago (9 children)

When I first joined, I saw The Picard Maneuver so often that I thought it was a community, not just a single user.

The place is a Village rather than a City.

Some people actually use the tag feature so that they remember users when they see them again lol

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, sure, if we're pretending you can't abandon accounts at will and make new ones elsewhere in the lemmy...verse.

The whole idea of "who" is kinda pointless.

Maybe I am the real Vanilla Puddinfudge. Maybe I'm not. What would it mean either way?
