you can simply check your profile and modlog on the instance in question. it'll show that you got banned from that instance 8 days ago. since you didn't participate in any community on that instance there were no community bans federated out. instance bans currently don't federate, only community bans for communities on the instance you got banned from, if you have previously participated in them.
Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.
Relevant comms
I see, i didn't know that. Thanks :)
The mild insult probably doesn't matter - the issue is contradicting that instance's precious, oh-so-precious circlejerk. They want to paint any sort of generative AI as a demon, and if you say otherwise you're the bad side.
And it's kind of funny how much they resemble the same sort of muppets who believe LLMs are intelligent. Same disingenuous/idiotic lack of reasoning and reading comprehension, same failure to see tech as tech.
That said there's no shadowban in Lemmy, it's probably federation syncing issues.

Exact same shit as Startrek.website with @[email protected] and @[email protected] using the entire instance as their own personal Trek fiefdom, permabanning anyone who they disagree with and acting like children terrified of something other. Corgana out here even has an @[email protected] that he will comment on and approve as if it isn't him.
I dunno what it is with these losers who mosey on over from Reddit and then bring the exact same energy.
Just an aside that it tangential related.
If you are one of those muppets (I was) I implore you to spend a couple hours learning to Roll out an llm on your own machine (not leveraging someone's GPU farm, use your own hardware at home). It only takes a couple hours of fucking around with prompts to realize these things are dice rolls with heavy weights on what Rolls can come next. They're dumb as rocks, don't think at all, and even so called "reasoning" models can't solve even the most basic logic puzzles.
I used Deepthink for an hour guiding it to proper solutions for logic puzzles and it consistently hallucinates new information to result in the puzzles being easy to solve.
LLMs are NOT intelligent, they're (much like diffusion models for images) literally just making sense from random noise.
Have you seen this video about LLMs trying to run a vending machine? It's so fucking funny.
They try emailing the FBI over 2 dollars
YOO is that the one where one of the LLMs gets stuck in a loop of existential despair because it must complete its task but has literally none of the tools to do so?
No :p it has all the tools, it just gets really confused lmao
Sounds worth a watch, thanks friend!
The admin of a small Awful instance is handing out bans from their instance to people from other instances who make posts on other other instances which offend the Awful admin.
Basically some cranky person is publishing their personal block list and the appropriate response is to ignore the Awfully-run instance.
Look at this guy trying to act like a wise referee handing out meaningless bans with zero effect. It’s like if I shout “red card!” at a TV soccer match.
At least give us a link to the discussion. Some people may want to read the perceived drama.
Still mad @ensign_[email protected] got banned for that when PugJesus was the aggressor of that.
None of them got any bans except from the Awful instance they weren’t even using.
This is just some guy yelling into the ether about posts that rustle his jimmies.
Hold on, I'm confused, the image you posted clearly states banned "from the community [email protected]"
Exactly. Someone is handing out bans that have no effect except their own instance, for users on other instances.
And I can confirm that I am banned from [email protected].
So basically, what deegeese is saying is nonsense then?
I'm not even certain what they're saying.
Ah then I am misreading, clearly I need to take a break from lemmy today. My apologies.
Their mod history is fucky, shows mod history 3 years ago before showing what happened 3 or 4 days ago. Feel free to verify.
Huh.
Yeah, it's definitely fucked. Trying to hit next technically seems to skip over pages, but it's moot because every page is just a copy of page one.
To clarify, there's no way there were no actions taken between 8 days and 3 months ago... They're just not in order or they're not showing every action, if that makes sense?? If you go to the next page, you'll see that pattern continue. Sorry if I'm being confusing
modlog view is a bit broken currently and doesn't make much sense if you don't know how it works.
the modlog view currently merges the different types of modlog entries in a single view, but the pagination doesn't make much sense that way.
for example, removing a comment is an action that happens quite frequently, but removing a community does not. the modlog shows e.g. up to 20 actions per modlog entry type, so you may see comment removals for the last few hours, but community removals could be for the past year. then when you hit next page, you'll see the next page for each type, but the times make even less sense now. you'll see entries 20-40 for comments, but also 20-40 for communities.
the timeline will be consistent when you filter for specific entry types.
I see... i didn't know that's how it worked.
I can confirm that if they did ban you, that ban information wasn't federated out. There's no mod actions in the lemmy.ca DB for you from that instance.
Heck I can't even tell who took mod action normally on me because if you get any notice its small on detail and as I have learned what is necessary to find out its like eff that bs. I just block the community and move on. Its like I stop going to clubs with the annoying bouncer or staff member.
I didn't know you could get shadowbanned on Lemmy. The most I ever hear about are straight forward temp bans or Perma bans. Sometimes you might be lucky and it might just be a simple comment removal o post removal resulting in no ban to the user.
You can't be shadowbanned in Lemmy and I doubt the developers will ever add it, OP just misunderstood the situation.
Hopefully the devs will make changes to the system to remove these shortcomings. Like Federating site bans in the modlog to all sites. Like instead of saying person was banned
say person was banned from instance.tld
maybe only say person was banned
locally on that instance. Would clear up a lot of these funny issues.
Ah ok. I didn't think that was a possibility on Lemmy.
I didn’t know you could get shadowbanned on Lemmy.
I've def had the feeling that I've been shadowbanned from some places, but I don't know if it's something that's done on Lemmy or not.
I never really cared enough to look into it too deeply though.
