Why don’t they just use an algorithm to do all of America’s taxes? This is literally one of 5 places where the US government needs more (non-llm) automation, rather than less.

Lobbying from the Tax Preparation Industry.

What throws me off is "Why are American Tax Prep Companies able to lobby against the government doing the taxes, when most other places didn't have this issue?"

And why is QuickBooks still the “default” for most small businesses despite everyone knowing how corrupt Intuit is?

Friends don’t let friends use Intuit products.

They just trashed our working FREE filing option from the IRS as a gift to the Filing Companies.

They just made it open source, which is a good thing unless im missing something important?

I had not seen that. That's ...Interesting.

However, they'll need to recertify their ability to submit those files properly with the IRS every year. Not sure how that would even be accomplished through an open source project.

I gave up after being on hold for 16 hrs over 2 days back in 2022. Can’t imagine how bad it is after all the cuts

At what point will they not even have the staff to follow up on who hasn't paid?
