Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

And the Western World has basically given up trying to do anything about it, at this point. They're all-in on fossil fuel production again, with no signs of slowing down.

It's the ultra rich that pollutes our planet and it's the ultra rich that has stolen our standard of living to the point we no longer care about their pollution.

It's also the ultra rich that decide whether or not solutions are worth pursuing. And it seems like they've decided not to bother anymore.

The western world has focused on what new real estate will open up and how to own it.

The majority of European countries are still moving in the right direction, albeit far too slowly. It's mainly just the US that's abandoning any attempt towards sustainability.

We’d better double down on coal power reliance then, and maybe triple the rate at which we build giant data centers to power our AI based customer service departments of all the predatory monopolistic capitalist corporations that are controlling the government and bleeding people dry. That should solve nicely for this.

Consumer, I'm sensing sarcasm in your response to humanities current predicament. I'd like to offer you 20% your next MEGASiZE combo meal. We offer easy financing options for those less endowed. The stock buybacks must continue, parachutes shall be golden, and the planet will be plundered for profit.

20% you say?

How many monthly payments (and what rate) do I need to make for this MEGASiZE meal?
