Seems like I'd you're that much of an alcoholic you should just go for the gold and bring your own liquor.

Shits expensive

"I only drink when I go out to the bar."

Goes to the bar for lunch and dinner every day.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Apparently that's what liquor ads are all about - making hard core alcoholics think that shit is normal and OK.

The dive bar by my house is right next to a Mediterranean restaurant. Staff pops in the bar and always acts like we're supposed to pretend they weren't there. Even if the owner and FOH manager are at the bar taking shots.

Funny post but please people don't take pride in consuming alcohol, or any other substance, too much of anything is bad for you, take care :)

Idk dude, water is pretty great.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Hyperhydration and hyponatremia are no joke.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Also watch out for hippopotamuses.

[–] musicalsigns@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

Just one of them is too many. Those things are freaking terrifying.

☝️Presenting to the emergency room

I used to work with an alcoholic, she would make coffee with wine in the mornings, just like a spoon full of instant coffee in a mug of wine. And in the afternoon she would walk around with a fork in her mug like she had a cup of noddles. After she was there for like 2 years my boss asked me if I think she was an alcoholic and I started laughing, he legit had nfi she had been drunk every day for the last 2 years

[–] senkora@lemmy.zip 23 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I can’t even think of a sadder drink than that.

[–] brewbellyblueberry@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 years ago

That's easy: the mix of puke, stomach acid, bits of whatever you last ate and the last couple of drinks and beer/wine you had, because you're damn sure not wasting that precious alcohol!

Another one: the room temp leftovers of all the beers and other drinks from the night/weekend poured into a pint when you're cleaning up. The Hangover Special! Yummy. Bonus points if there's a cigarette/joint butt in there somewhere that you fish out because you didn't notice someone had used that can as an ashtray. Delicious!

Put it a champagne flute.

[–] Amir@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago (9 children)

Why would you willingly mix caffeine and alcohol :/

[–] 13esq@lemmy.world 32 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

It's a classic mix of uppers/downers. Surely you've heard of popular mixes like vodka and red bull?

The alcohol fucks you up but it also makes you slower and more tired, that's where the caffeine comes in.

For me personally it can lead to getting blackout drunk, it's as if the brain has switched off but the body just keeps on going, which is usually followed by regret the next day.

I hear it being called killswitch

Drinking even a single beer less than an hour after a coffee makes me and many others miserably sleepy and dizzy. Energy drinks don't seem to have the same effect though

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 years ago

What? It's fairly common and just fine imo

[–] gothicdecadence@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I've never done it but it supposedly makes you not feel drunk. You still totally are but it makes you feel sober so at least there's that?

[–] Afghaniscran@feddit.uk 14 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I have done it, a shit load of times. It's not even close to healthy but I wouldn't say it makes me feel sober. It usually makes me feel absolutely shitfaced. The end result is usually lying in bed, the room is spinning but I can't fall asleep because I'm pumped full of energy drinks or drinking till like 6 or 7am for the same reasons. If I can't sleep I might as well carry on drinking.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 years ago

be me

xanax and cocaine

Yeeeeaahhhh coffee and alcohol, super bad for you don’t do that

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Idk... but now I have an urge to try it, with wine I mean, I have already tried whisky with coffee and similar stuff. Oh and I also tried that Jaggermaister with Coffee they sell already mixed, wasn't too bad as always needs to be freezer cool to be good.

[–] lol3droflxp@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Jägermeister? Or some weird knock off?

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah that one the original brand, I never write it right.

This variety is called cold brew coffee.

[–] Dontfearthereaper123@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Why wouldn't you?

[–] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

I used to drink vodka and red bull when I wanted to learn how to swear in other languages playing CS:GO. Most euro premades had one person that spoke enough english for us to get through the game. Fun shit.

[–] Amends1782 5 points 2 years ago

Its a normie speedball super common

To get up to get down?

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 29 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I have the same shit happen at work, but it's the fry cooks from the Wingstop down the street.

[–] zammy95@lemmy.world 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If I go to a Wingstop and the cooks are sober, something seems wrong.

[–] Thassodar@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

It's like going to a bowling alley and NOT smelling 20+ years of cigarette smoke in the ceiling tiles.

[–] MonsiuerPatEBrown@reddthat.com 24 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

most of the places that i worked writing code in the 1990s had sales and marketing departments with two drink minimums.

[–] lowleveldata@programming.dev 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ahh it's one of those "I need more alcohol for this shit" days at work

[–] Amends1782 3 points 2 years ago

Except its every day :(

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I used to work in a metal fab shop years ago. There were a couple of the guys on my shift who would drive to the bar down the road for lunch, drink as much hard liquor as they could in 25 minutes, and then come back to work. The ones who didn't go to the bar instead stepped out back and smoked a joint.

It did leave the break room nice and quiet for me during lunch.

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I used to work at a call center with a bar across the street. One day my supervisor invited me to lunch and the second we walked in the bartender started pouring a few shots. Both for him.

Not going to lie after that lunch the second half of the day was a bit easier than the first. Glad I got out when I did.

The collapse of the roman empire but with WIFI, welcome to the end!

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago

Rando getting hammered over lunch before going back to work

This is the peak, not the end!

But now the lead is in the water not the wine!

[–] Rolando@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Should have taken your shot. Lady's a keeper.

[–] Aermis@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As a decade long alcoholic who is just now half a Year in sobriety, drinking is not a keeping trait

[–] Blastasaurus@lemm.ee 11 points 2 years ago

I second this and congrats. I'm 2 years sober and it definitely became a lot easier around the 6 month mark for me. You're crushing it.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 years ago

For a weekend maybe

[–] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

Alcoholics are great

[–] hoodlem@hoodlem.me 5 points 2 years ago

Reminds me of when I vacationed in New Orleans. I passed by the city hall at 9 in the morning and out of the building came several men in suits with Hurricanes in hand. Definitely weren’t the only ones with drinks either.
