No he definitely learned from his time with the Broncos and you can see the progress that he's made since then
He was able to gut the team and alienate his players much faster with us than he could with Denver

It’s like the thesis of The Sopranos: People Don’t Change. But, Yes, it’s always pretty stunning when you watch it in real time, huh???
Yeah thats next level incompetence.
I'm just hoping Antonio Pierce szn is fun.
My biggest gripe with McDaniels shitting the bed like this is it just proves once again that Brady is the GOAT. I fucking hate having to say that but dumbass just proved that he wasn't a system QB, he was the system
Ego prevents personal growth. And this guy is full of it. Its almost as if instead of changing his ways he told himself "second times the charm, this time it WILL work" Putting all his chips on a QB made of glass was a desperation move. That- and his ego - signed his walking papers.
I’m more surprised that anyone was surprised by Josh McDaniels ineptitude
I honestly was willing to give benefit of the doubt but quickly saw he was truly terrible. He doesn’t have the personality to be a raiders coach. He never did. That became clear REALLY quickly. What surprising is how long it took to get rid of him but that’s all in the past now baby. Looking only through the front window from now on! RRRRAAAAAAIIIDEEEERSSS
Listen, if you can't get along with Hunter Renfow, your a fkn asshole and definetly not a leader of men. Still, I was surprised how much of an egomaniac prick he was. He really shit on DC, then tried to get him back when TB retired, then made AOC wear his number. He also leaked Walkers wedding and traded him on his honeymoon. Nice gift for the newlyweds who just got separated by the country. Please door, hit him on the way out. Later Barney Rubble looking mf. We gots a real one now.
A hee hee heeE! 🙌🏼
I never liked the signing. The only thing they did that actually gave me hope and believe in them, was signing Adams.
The “patriot way” worked because they had Tom Brady plain and simple. Look at Belichek and McDaniels struggle without him.
When they first hired him I tried to force myself into thinking enough time had passed and people change and learn from their past mistakes. That lasted 3 games last season. I knew he was the same coach that he was in Denver when we started 0-3. I wanted him out since then.
you know.. if it sounds like shit, looks like shit, and coaches like shit, its mcdumbass.. you know
I think a better comparison would be, his inability to access QB talent, instead picking high character guys who would religiously follow his game plan (Tebow and Hoyer), rather than reaching in the draft with Tebow and Wilson.
I am not surprised. I wasn't thrilled with the hire, but was willing to give him a shot. He was every bit as bad as was worried he would be. He was lucky he lasted as long as he did.
Most didn’t view Wilson as a reach TBH. Not a finished product, but not a reach. A lot of people had him mocked as the first DE off the board as the draft neared.
I agree with everything else, 100%.
It's mind boggling that he came into the season admittedly knowing what not to do then went right ahead and did exactly that. It's almost as if he was trying to fail on purpose.
Waller needed to be traded. Also, no one thought Wilson was a reach. We all just thought we should've gone cb or taken the risk for Carter.
You are correct though, in that most people in life are expected to grow, mature, and change as time goes by. Josh didn't and now is out of a job (though I do wish I had his bank account) and won't get a 3rd HC opportunity.
I don’t think we give enough credit to Mcdaniels and Ziegler’s agent. He really fleeced Mark. Talked a big game and got guaranteed cash out of him. Sold them as a package deal and dispelled any concerns about being a shitty head coach in Denver. Now they’re all chillin at home and he’s like, “I told you we’d be fine.”
Considering he worked in Denver 10+ years ago and said he had learned so much from his first go around, I was hopeful that he would be able to make it work for his 2nd (and last chance).
The fact he did the same exact thing just goes to show that ego got the best of him.
Side note: Did feel for Ziegler a bit, but the more that has come out just shows he was basically McDaniels version of Mayock.
What's crazy is that he was saying all the right things at first. He said I had to take a step back and look and how I handle relationships and the personal side of things. Like he knew or at least someone told him those were huge issues, and this grown, professional, adult person went back and did the same shit. Mind boggling man
For an “offensive guru” he sure was an idiot. I can’t mentally comprehend how stupid he is
I wouldn’t say I was surprised, but I tried to be hopeful and it sucked.
Tebow and Wilson come on man!
Waller was a smart move in a way he’s never healthy and he cost a lot
Yeah McDaniels sucked but..
How is Wilson a reach? He was taken where he was projected to go. Arguably the best Edge Defender prospect in the class. A reach is Damon Arnette or Cle Ferrell. Projected to go later but taken way too early.
And wth the majority of this fanbase trashed Waller while he was here lol. I was shocked seeing the fake outcry for him by the same people that said he sucks, milking his injuries, and didn’t care about football anymore.
He's literally one of the worst to ever do it. There have been very few coaches worse than McDaniels in the history of the NFL. His name will forever be tainted, and I love to see it. Little shit-eating arrogant prick deserves every bit of infamy he's accumulated.
Ask his wife and our wives: men never change
I’m not surprised. I deserve a gold metal for trying to justify it all offseason.
The second he kicked that FG against Pittsburgh I knew he’d never work out
Some of these are a stretch. Do you really think keeping Waller and not drafting MM would be a good choice (Waller is already on IR)
He only cared about his way and the fucking patriot way. He’s a dumb bitch when it comes to people and doesn’t deserve to be anything but a fucking coordinator.
Yea the only thing that really surprised me was how quickly he moved on from carr/ Waller and renfrow despite making similar mistakes when with the donkeys. I don’t necessarily think trading Waller was a bad thing, we got a third for a type of player that tends to decline pretty rapidly once their third contract begins. BUT that doesn’t change the fact that he basically tried to remove any player leadership that questioned him like he did for the donkeys.
I don’t think his play design was bad, it was actually kind of impressive at points, however he clearly lacked the tactical ability or awareness to maximize his plays effectively and efficiently
I’m a Cards fan first. The Raiders replaced the Chargers as my second team the year both teams relocated. This is my first head coach hire.
I was so optimistic after that fun as hell year Gruden got fired. Then we hire JMD. What. The. Fuck.
Remember, I’m new to the Raiders, not the AFC West. I vividly remember his year with the Broncos. I was completely and utterly convinced when he got fired that he would never have a head coach job again.
Like he didn’t just fail as a head coach. He failed at everything. And then you look at pretty much any other time a coach from Belichick tree has gotten a shot of head coach. Oh and add the fact that the longer Belichick goes without Brady, the more evident it is that Brady carried that man.
I really cannot even begin to imagine what in the actual fuck Mark Davis was thinking when he thought Josh McDaniels was going to be the man to save this franchise. I just hope he learned something.
Yes, it surprises me that someone could be that dense. On a very basic level as humans, we need to adapt to survive. This rings true for our social and professional lives as well. However, this guy did the exact same thing that jeopardized his livelihood the first time. It's hard to feel bad for someone who is that dense/stupid. Don't feel bad for Mark either cause he should know you can't fix stupid.
He's trying so hard to be Belicheck but McD is just a fucking dork, he failed miserably.
Trading Waller was probably the right move. But everything else he did and how he did it was petty and trashy.
You mean a tiger can’t change it’s stripes? ….weird.
Fuck waller. He just wants a paycheck. Everything else is true
Nobody should be surprised we all knew he was ass coming into the job lol. Only people surprised are his weird supporters.
I’m surprised our offense struggled as much as it did but it’s become clear that Brady was the important key to NE success.
He is exactly the weenie everyone thought he was. Sometimes you can tell someone's character by one glance.
To be fair Wilson was definitely not a reach. He was considered one of the best edge rushers in the draft.
When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time.
Waller had to go, and Wilson is not a terrible pick imo. But I do think everything about McDaniels regime was hot garbage. So glad he is gone, he was here a season and a half too long.
I can say I’m honestly disappointed that he didn’t learn more from his mistakes. I thought after 10+ years he’d have learned where he messed up, he’d also have learned from how all the other coaches have messed up. But he never did. Sucks for everybody, but we got Antonio Pierce now, and hopefully he can bring our swagger back, and make us a tough team to beat
I don’t know who this McDaniels person you’re referring to is. Our last coach was Rich Bisaccia, before that was Jon Gruden. We are now about to return to greatness with the Pierce era. Raaaaaaiiiiiiddeeeerrrrsssss!!!!!
Don't forget that he burned the Colts too. I never thought he'd get another chance after burning the Colts like that, then the Raiders hired him. He did pretty much what you'd expect after his behavior with the Broncos and Colts.
I'm kind of surprised but it goes to show you can't change who you are, only become more like yourself. McD might tried to outwardly act like more of a people person and leader, but he was never either and trying to fit a role that doesn't belong to him.
I have thought the same thing. I was totally willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. 10 years, he learned from his mistakes. He is going to do it differently, blah blah blah. Even HE said he was going to be different this go around. I remember him talking about in a presser early in that he wasn’t trying to bring the Patriot Way to Vegas. It was all bullshit. He should give the Raiders money back for lying lol.
