Say we crush the rest of the season. Drop low in the draft, and can't trade up and draft a new QB? Are there any half decent FAs coming up in the off season or do we stick with AOC/Jimmy G?

If we crush the rest of the season then I would assume AOC is playing really well and we wouldn’t need to draft a QB in the 1st round.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Absolute zero chance Jimmy has a chance of starting next year. I appreciate him being a good soldier with his benching and he seems like a great teammate/mentor

We aren’t really a Kirk Cousins/Aaron Rodgers away from a Super Bowl and I doubt we pick high enough for Caleb/Drake Maye. But AOC at least buys us some time, we can take a swing at whatever QB falls to us and not rush them in

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Keep AOC. Draft BPA and focus on building our OL and secondary. More toughness on the DL would also be nice

We're most likely not making a deep playoff run, so there will be talented QBs available in the middle of the 1st round.

I count 5-6 QBs in this class worth risking a 1st rounder on. Not all will go in the 1st. We’ll be fine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I like how “crush the rest of the season” is counted as “nothing goes our way.”

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Here we go again. Not every QB drafted in the first round is successful and QBs can be found throughout the draft. Tom Brady, Kirk Cousins, Rich Gannon, Brock Purdy, etc etc etc etc

Lamar Jackson was drafted 31st in the 1st round. Carr 2nd round, Geno Smith 2nd round.

Raiders have only drafted and developed 2 QBs that ever became starters. Stabler and Carr.

Just stop these stupid ass post

Angry fella 😂

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

We draft another bum, y'all hype him up, he does poorly with a few flashes of potential. We get excited for his sophomore season only to be slightly more/less disappointed. By his third season, we will have fallen in love with the prospect of signing a relic like Aaron Rodgers who will then proceed to underperform because he is an old man.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jimmy G is done. If we crush the rest of the year, AOC would’ve balled out. I can’t see that happening, but I’d still draft a QB early.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well exactly… if we KILL IT the rest of the season why would we need to move on from AOC?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

QB class is pretty deep. Can likely get some competition for AOC in the 2nd to 3rd round.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If we do well the rest of the season that must mean AOC was a serviceable QB and we wouldn’t need to draft QB in the 1st.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

we sign Gardner Minshew as insurance and draft a rookie QB

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I mean for us to crush to rest of the season would mean AOC turns into an average to good starter...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I think this is the draft we get a guy rd 2-3 who will either push or overtake AOC. There are like 3 elite QBs and then it depends who you ask how to rank like the next 17. I think Quin Ewers or Jayden Daniels can be had rd two and Spencer Rattler probably rd 3.

Meantime, lockdown Jer'zhan or Rome Odunze rd.1, (both if we trade Tae to the Jets) get a RT or CB rd. 2.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

We draft another one. And we all email JMcD a picture of a donkey dick for X-mas annually.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I really don’t think some of you realize the gravity of drafting a QB. Outside of AOC going pro bowl the rest of the way we HAVE to draft a QB. This is one of the deepest classes I can remember with legit late 1st round talent. Waiting til next year is foolish. IF you can get a guy that you believe in, you take him. Period. I’m tired of hearing about these anomaly players. Jackson and Mahomes were guys those teams really wanted. Philly got lucky. Our team is not as far away as this fan base screams about. And if it is, then we need to blow it up. Being stuck in the middle is absolutely the worst thing you can do.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

there's a guy in NE named Josh Mcdaniels. We hire him because he can turn a high school QB into a hall of famer.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

What do you mean exactly? I’m assuming you mean what happens if we play great the rest of the year? Depends how great

If we somehow won out 11-6 or even 10-7, and Aidan looked solid, I honestly don’t know how you move off of him. Drafting another QB is a gamble, and if Aidan’s playing good ball on a rookie deal, it’s hard to wanna get away from that

If it’s the defense for the reason we win 9+, then hopefully a QB could fall or we manage to trade up a little bit to 10-14. It’s a deep QB class.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If that happens you draft to fill out the rest of the team and roll with AOC at least one more year. The roster is far from being just a QB away. I really don't understand how people think a QB makes this team relevant when there are holes throughout the roster.

Edit: I think we should do this regardless of how the rest of the season shakes out, build up the roster, let some of the dead cap fall off, and then be aggressive to get a QB the following year if we need to.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If we crush the rest of the season, why are we looking for a new QB?

r/JimmyG….no

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Draft a QB when he's the best player available. A lot of qb flops have been picked early, and some great qbs have been picked in later rounds. It's a crapshoot. The Raiders are due to hit on a franchise qb. Hopefully, sooner than later.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If we crush the rest of the season, it means AOC is the truth. So you build around him. Unless you have an opportunity to trade up for a potential franchise qb. Don't believe me? Look in our own division. How did the Chiefs end up with the best qb in the NFL? Coming off a division title? They traded up for Patrick Mahomes even with Alex Smith on the roster. So even if we crush the season, if we can trade up for some truly franchise worthy ( Maye, possible Williams, possibly Penix, the rest not so much) then we do it. But if we can't move up, we don't.

But thats the thing. We arent going to crush the regular season. So don't worry about it. We will end up with 8 or less wins. Not being a doubter/hater. Just being realistic.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

unfortunately we are married to our qb room. They can probably say fuck it and eat jimmy and hoyers contract, thats not off the table yet and i think they will with Hoyer. Possible draft a middle of the 1st or 2nd qb to compete with Jimmy and AOC. I expect this next year to be a soft reset as they manage the massive deadcap we have. As for available guys there are a few possibilities that are interesting. Some of the THEORETICAL highlights could be Dobbs, Minshew, Fields, Perk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, Baker, Kyler. The only ones you could probably build around with be Fields and Kyler, the rest would just be stop gaps.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So many variables between now and then. But I’m assuming AOC will be there and will either have a vet or rookie QB to compete with.

Jimmy and Hoyer are done here IMO

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately I don’t think anyone will take Jimmy and we don’t save anything by cutting him so might as well keep him to be a backup vet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Go after cousins in the offseason as long as he can pass a physical.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

You're saying that crushing the rest of the season is nothing going our way??? What are we even talking about here?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Nothing goes our way? If we crush it that means things went our way. It’s much too early to see how the draft will fall as prospects will go up and down as we lease up for the draft. There are a handful of QBs that as of now are late 1 early 2 “worthy”. Daniels, Nix, Penix, etc may all be available mid to late round 1, early round 2. It’s much too early to fret about this though so just have fun with rest of season and looking at different prospects.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There are 5-6 really good QBs in this draft. Assuming you write off Maye/Williams because we're not getting a top 3 pick, the following are all GREAT day 1 starters;

Bo "Knows" Nix

Michael Penix

JJ McCarthy

Quinn Ewers (I think he goes back for another year)

Jayden Daniels

Riley Leonard (I think he goes back too)

They're all 1st round guys. Raiders could land one of these guys anywhere in the 1st.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’d take Bo Nix over Williams/Maye he’s already an NFL ready QB. His only downfall if it really is one is his age

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m not following how “crushing the rest of the season and dropping low in the draft” equates to “nothing going our way”.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

op is probably a tank for caleb kinda guy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The post title and explanation is a little off. I think what you’re saying is, what if AOC is not the guy and there are no good QBs available at our draft spot, what QBs will be available in FA.

Your post says “what happens if nothing goes our way”, while we win out the rest of the year…ha.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

We have to Draft a QB, Aiden is a good backup from the looks of it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The game is changing. If we want to be competitive in the future, we need a mobile qb. The days of 6’4” pocket passers are numbered.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

and can't trade up

trading up is always an option

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

QB is stacked this year, we don't need to trade up take who falls to you. Hell, assuming QBs don't opt to stay in school another year there will be 1st round talent in the 2nd.

It might be a little risky waiting til the 2nd round if we pick 45-50 or later. Penix, Nix Ewers, McCarthy, Sanders, one or more of them will be there in the 2nd

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I think sanders is going back to CU for another year but him in the second and giving him some time to develop would be amazing

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

They'll draft one. Pretty basic. Hopefully not in the first round since I still think they need to desperately address the O and D lines

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’m struggling to see how the raiders “crush”?!?. They have yet to beat even an average team. AOC has huge strides to make before he has the job. Right now, he looks like a guy that will be in the league for 10 years, but as a back up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I think it's all dependent on who the coach and GM are. A new regime will probably want to bring in their own guy at QB.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

There is plenty of QB’s that will be available in the next draft, it’s all in how you coach them if they’re successful or not

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Cousins would be my first choice if we don’t draft a QB.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Tbh, the direction won’t be known until after the season. We need to know who our GM/HC will be. I do hope it’s Champ/AP. Then we need to know the OC and his preference. New OC will have more influence since AP is defensive coach.

Best case scenario - AOC balls out and we focus on upgrading OL and DL with high picks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Trade up to get Caleb Williams

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

No matter what we should DRAFT a Qb. Trgardless of how Aiden oconnel grows. Look to get out of bad contracts and then just have continuity for the next season. Make decision at ab midway or wnd and then hit hard for the wins the year after

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Our winning seasons were west coast schemes. The best west coast style qb in the 2024 Draft is Frank Harris, UTSA. Watch this man's highlights when pressured.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Very deep QB class that we can find a guy to compete with Aidan for the starter next season. I really like bo nix or Jayden Daniels, who we could grab mid first or trade up early second for.
