I like to use panko and grated Parmesan and /or Asiago cheese mixed with melted butter, salt, pepper, and dried herbs as a topping for pasta casseroles.

Any Aloe growers out there know if I can cover this stem with soil? Will it harm the plant?

Yoga Jeans are also Canadian made. If you like your jeans stretchy, they’re a good option. They have long inseams for us talks too.

Good point on Mark’s ambivalence toward Irving. He also says “he’s not dead, he’s just not here” which is what his outie says about his wife when talking about “her” ashes

Just read this article in Guelph today about the problems with trying to go car free in Guelph. Do you have a car? More than one? What would it take for you to go car free in Guelph? Or even to save your car for out of town trips only?

I just got back from Vancouver where I lived car free for many years and was reminded about how much I enjoyed getting around there. Some of the things that worked well:

Skytrain extending to surrounding cities Frequent buses Abundant access to rental cars Plenty of walking paths Protected bike lanes Dense living with walkable neighborhoods rather than suburban sprawl

Going car free was not only cheaper day to day, it was healthier. We spent more time walking and cycling than driving. Transit was the norm. Shopping was always close by.

I know that Guelph is not a big city but it’s growing fast. It would be nice to see it grow in a more sustainable direction.

Guelph’s car-free nirvana is impossible without more regional transit

I went to Miijidaa for Mothers Day last year and, agreed, the space is great. The meal I had was terrible though. So bad the wait staff was apologetic and offered me another meal. I declined as it would’ve meant my family would have to sit there after they’d finished eating and wait for me to get a new meal and eat it which felt foolish. I had ordered the special, not their usual menu. I’ve been meaning to go back and give it another shot. When I do, I’ll be sure to order from the regular menu lol

We haven’t lived in Guelph for very long, having moved in during lockdown, and we don’t go out often. When we do go out, we want good food n a good atmosphere. So far, our favorites are Halmand Kabob House and Taste of Andy. Great food but not much in the way of atmosphere when it comes to eating out.

What are some of your favorite spots and why?

This recipe is based on one I got from Epicurious many years ago and have been using as my sole muffin recipe ever since. It can be flavored any number of ways. This is my favorite flavor combo.

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar 1 tsp baking soda 1 egg 1 1/2 cups plain yogurt 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 tsp lemon extract Dried cranberries or blueberries

Glaze One lemon, zested and juiced 1/3 cup white sugar

Directions

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Stir in lemon zest and dried fruit.

In another bowl, combine yogurt, oil, vanilla and the egg. Beat together until smooth.

Add wet ingredients to dry.

Fill greased muffin tins all the way (will rise nicely) or use cupcake liners and bake at 375 F for about 25 minutes.

Stir together lemon juice and white sugar to make a thick glaze. When slightly cooled, remove from muffin tin onto cooling rack. Use a toothpick to poke holes in the tops of the baked muffins while they are still hot from the oven and slather the glaze on. It will be a messy business but well worth it. When they cool, the tops will be sticky and encrusted with sugary goodness.

You can use whatever extract and fruit you like, add nuts, and/or make a crumble topping. These muffins are moist and light and sweet

I’ve used Epicurious.com in the past and it was quite good. Also FoodNetwork.com. Allrecipes.com is good for a large quantity of recipes and is very active but I’ve found that, since the recipes are community submitted, they can be hit or miss.
