"Seems those that tried it, loved it!" is a pretty bold claim...

You're on thin ice posting food porn worthy stuff here ๐Ÿ˜‹

Release notes if anyone is interested. Lots of good stuff.

A lot of us just left a site because it was ruined by corporate greed. I don't think corporations belong in the fediverse. If there's a vote, I vote for defedding with Threads.

There's no way Nicola and Meisha are going to work out. Meisha is kind of heavy on the whole god thing, but she seems really mature relationship-wise. Like, she's one of the few people I've seen on 90DF that actually wants to sit down and have an adult conversation (without yelling/crying/drama) and Nicola is like "lol, you're cute when you're not talking". Super disrespectful. I was so happy when she called him out on his deflections and turning everything into a joke.

Yep! It's a good article from the CBC. I think they explain it well. As a cyclist, it's good to get this information out in the wild for people who aren't aware. I've been almost hit by enough cars ๐Ÿ˜…

That's a fucking tragedy bud. I think that counts as treason in this country ๐Ÿคฎ

(I x-posted this to /c/shittyfoodporn. I hope that's okay!)

I've been trying to kickstart four communities because apparently I'm a masochist, but I've posted more in the last month than I did in the last 10 years on reddit. It reminds me a lot of my first couple of years on reddit (circa 2010/2011) and then my posting died off because you'd either get drowned out by the noise (hundreds or thousands of comments) or ignored in favour of a one liner joke.

I've seen a lot of people comparing Lemmy to early reddit, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I feel like there's one important distinction between the two. Even early reddit was driven by karma. There just wasn't as much people >10 years ago. I find the lack of karma on Lemmy refreshing. How it's gone back to the old forum way of just counting the number of posts is fantastic. It's a weird habit to break out of though because part of me still wants to go "I got no upvotes, time to delete" or "I'm getting downvotes, better delete my post".

I think $1/beer is perfectly reasonable. I've noticed the price of beer has skyrocketed at the pubs/bars, but assuming the absolute high end of $8 per beer, that's still a 12.5% tip which seems fine to me.

I usually tip somewhere between 10% and 15% on a good day. People can call me a cheap bastard if they want, but it's already getting crazy expensive to eat out and that's 10/15% on top of the higher alcohol/food prices. The waiters/waitresses always look disappointed. I've learned to stop worrying about it. It's either that, or I stop eating out all together which is zero dollars in anyone's pocket.

I really like the idea behind "do not change the intention/message of the original title" instead of "the original title must be used". Gives a little bit of flexibility to the situation.

I tried to combine the best of both works and added the following community rule to /c/Victoria:

Avoid editorializing/sensationalizing news article titles, i.e. do not change the intention/message of the original title.

Want to preface this by saying I'm not trying to attack, I'm just looking for some clarification so I fully understand. I'm going to use two of my posts as an example because I've changed titles to make things more clear/relevant to the community.

Post Title: "Emerson the elephant seal has departed from Oak Bay Marina beach"

Original article title: "Roving elephant seal gone from Oak Bay Marina beach"

Post Title: "11 Island breweries (6 from Greater Victoria) pick up medals at 2023 Canadian Brewing Awards"

Original title: "Greater Victoria breweries bring home hardware from national beer awards"

As I understand it, neither of these would be allowed under the new rule, correct?

My backlog was getting low (which is rare), so I've stocked up to last a while, or at least until the winter sale.

  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • Slay the Spire
  • Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
  • Yakuza 3/4/5/6 (bought the collection but I already owned 0/1/2)

It seems weird to be sad about an app. My reddit account is 13 years old and I honestly couldn't tell you when I started using RIF or how I even found out about it, but it was the one and only reddit app that I used and it followed me across 5 different Android phones over the years.

From deep down, I just want to say thank you talklittle. You could argue that I probably spent way too much time on reddit, but so much of that time was spent on the app that you created. I found endless things through RIF that I shared with friends over the years. It got me through airport layovers, ferry sailings, hospital waiting rooms, breakups, late nights, and so much more. All those little moments in life where you need a quick escape, a laugh, or just need to check in on the world. The app and all your efforts will be deeply missed.
