FreeTube also is based on Invidious instances, changing the instance may work, but better to set the SMplayer as extern player, then you can open the Video in this player which works almost always.

Another possibility, outside of YT, for free movies live and on demand are Pluto TV and websites of Public TV channels. Free Movies are not a big problem in YT and online, only need to search a little. Alternatives to YT, well, maybe in near future Odysee respect content.
