I'm glad I had a slightly earlier start and am starting to learn how to curate my experience.

The red on it is definitely striking!

I think it’s a common municipal bylaw for communities on Vancouver Island that every second business has be named “Arbutus” something.

I lived in Vancouver way too long to not have realized Arbutus was a tree of some sort. There is a neighbourhood with tree themed street names and it never occurred to me to investigate what type of tree Arbutus was amongst the Yew and Birch routes. My partner said he thought Arbutus was just some historical dude.

Here is also an easier read: https://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/library/documents/treebook/arbutus.htm

I'm still trying to figure out lemmy! I originally had the above linked and then decided to include a picture but apparently that overrides the link. Also TIL that the site doesn't grab images from links like R3dd!t does.

Reminds me of a play I saw where fungi merged with the last humans on earth to form a new symbiotic organism. Not unlike the Trill from Star Trek.

I saw a comment that said they welcome the day reddit sanitizes offensive usernames FOR THE CHILDREN. The soccer moms are already there.

Ugh, I hate to link the Daily Hive but it is the best list out there right now: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canada-day-fireworks-metro-vancouver-2023

No fireworks in Vancouver proper, but some of these are def transit accessible, especially Burnaby events.

Fine by us, we already cancelled when they wouldn't allow sharing between different house holds

This episode was striking in that it showed the crew of the Enterprise being the best of the best Starfleet officers. Pike going to literally the brink of death to find his #1 the best lawyer in the galaxy, Uhura telling La'an off for making an illegal request, La'an trying to poke holes into weak chinks in security, and Una stepping up to lay it all out on the table so her friends won't have to keep her secret and be in danger for doing so. Amazing. No wonder they're posted on the flagship.

Oh yeah, an actual lawyer and one who was not assigned by Starfleet. Una was also spot on with her complaint that her original counsel was paid by those prosecuting her. 👏

I just finished watching that episode and oh boy is it a head spinner. Damn you, Charlie Brooker, you've done it again and I love you.
