I use my two bullets to shoot the concept of this political thought experimentp. Let me out now puzzle master, we had a deal you can't keep

People have launched studios on less than an intro to Python course hehe, so don't sell yourself short.

... and my writing used to be much better in highschool. Now my writing is pretty bland in comparison because somewhere along the line that spark kinda got lost.

Heard this. Although when I've read some of my older stuff, it's not like it was good, but it was more adventurous. Like I would just try things. Actually that's one of the reason I started a little writing club over here - to force myself to actually practice publicly, and just put shit out there.

Have you ever thought of making a short game design document? It's easy to procrastinate and focus on just that part, never moving on. But if you're curious about getting into the space, it might be helpful to dip a toe into it.

Ah! It takes your breath away!

Can't spell jugaad without jug, after all (see manifesto).

I will say I agree with your distaste for plastics, and try to avoid it around foodstuffs. I think @rwdf is likely right, and we will look back on our plastic use with dread in the future. It's just to ubiquitous now that we don't even think of it.

But I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade. This is a great example of thrift and self reliance.

It's 2025, some of the gamer priests are Nazis. Please try to keep up, it will only get wilder

Oh this is those King of Carrot Flowers people!!! Cool. Thanks for sharing. :)

"Do not call list" more like "Look at that list of numbers to call"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 19 hours ago

It's more of a problem in different countries. Also I find there's a blitz every now and then and I'll get 3+ spam calls a day, and then months without any.

Oh wow that's so strange. I love emails, because I can reread everything I just said before hitting send. Whereas when I'm having a verbal conversation, I'm never going to say things as clearly/accurately because I feel like I'm just riffing off of the top of my brain pan.

Oh god, a 5 minute voice note with no accompanying text, just shoot me. Like you're really going to make me listen to you ramble on a 1x speed while you get to some point that I guarantee could fit in one or two sentences, if you took the modicum of brain power required to compose your thoughts into coherent words.

PS. I understand a lot of people love sending voice notes back and forth, and that's totally fine if it's the thing.

Just because you have a question does not make it an emergency on my part.

This is it for me. If someone is an auditory processor, or needs a more nuanced conversation in order to understand something, I sympathize. But not everyone is like that. Just send a quick message asking to chat (or better yet, find time on my calendar if it's for work), and then I can prepare what I know on the subject, review it, and get back to you.

Otherwise you're going to get an ear full of ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm
uhhhhh hmm
hang on, I was just

You'd be surprised how often honest disagreements arise from bad recollection. It doesn't have to be ill-willed: we've all had the experience remembering a shared conversation completely differently from the person we had it with.

I find I get some really quality introspection / observations around this time of year, and also just during holidays in general. Maybe it's just the time off, or maybe it's having an event to write around. I'm not sure.

Do other folks especially look forward to writing their thoughts down during the holidays? Like I'm visiting family for a couple days, and I can't wait to document the memories that haven't even occurred yet.

What I mean by hybrid is like mélanges like green tea & ginger, green tea & jasmine, etc.

I find they lend a nice upper/downer tonality, like in the previous example I'd go with ginger green tea if I really wanted to focus, and jasmine if I was trying to coax a more relaxed vibe.

Approx 17 billion hoodies will go through the clothes washing machine this night.

I'm just going to keep posting pictures of tea in various situations until someone tells me to cool it.

Is what I say to myself as I shuffle away with my second cup of the morning.

It's not my first choice, but it's gonna be TypeScript for me. I've got an interview for a primarily TS position coming up this week so would like to brush up on its quirks.

If the interview doesn't go well, then I'll probably switch to Go, though hehe. I've been really enjoying using it, but no one's ever paid me to do so.

I've been getting away with this for many years, and would like to pass it on to you now. It's like an intrusive thought, but a fun one.

For instance when writing to a friend:

Make sure to save yourself some Halloween candy!

Take a moment to muse over the modification:

Make sure to save Yousef some Halloween candy!

Who is this Yousef and why does he get your friend's candy?? Take a moment to enjoy this incongruity, then send the original message. Congratulations, you've just had a moment of whimsy, and no one's the wiser.

You'll find there's no end to what these Yousefs get themselves involved in. May also work with variants of the name like Joseph, I haven't tried.

Okay. Enjoy!

Self explanatory.

Just something I heard years ago, and it's been rolling around in my head ever since.

Hoping to pass it along. Rid myself of it.

Hey sobernauts out there on the clear dry seas lol. The pink cloud is gone, so now I'm just in the daily living part (7mos), but even still, had a bit of a realisation recently.

I got unexpectedly laid off from my job recently, which previously would have been a big trigger to hit the bar. But this time I was thankful that I didn't drink anymore (or smoke for that matter). Not even for the money (although that is one factor), but that despite all my problems at least I don't have to deal with the ravages of booze on top of everything else. I can move forward with real world solutions to my actual problem with a clear head.

It especially hit me when shortly after my layoff, a friend came over with a "care package" of junk food and a light beer, saying to my partner "c'mon not even one beer." But I realised that I wasn't even tempted (though the inertia from old habits could have easily led me to drink).

Anyway, this friend doesn't know how much I value my sobriety (we used to drink together a lot a lot), so I thanked him for the thought, but gave the beer to another friend of mine.

That's the story. My physical addiction to alcohol isn't that great thankfully, so it's not that dramatic, but it still felt like a nice reinforcement that I'm on the right path.
