This can't be coincidental. And I don't buy a DDOS attack either. For one... why? I don't see the motive. And two: Reddit is one of the largest, heaviest trafficked websites, their infrastructure and CDN eats DDOS's for breakfast.
Insider employee sympathy strike? Someone unplugged the server controller server? maybe.
I think... I think they've deliberately taken it down because they don't want people to see how godawful empty Reddit is without all the striking subs. Last I checked at 11:30 last night, all it was were pretty shitty subs (like plumbing and home improvement) or smaller ones where the mods probably hadn't gotten around to it yet or aren't "with it" enough.

I can't speak to how well it froths, but both Silk's NextMilk and the Not Milk plant based alternatives are (to this non-vegan who cooks for a vegan) as close enough as to be indistinguishable.
Also Starbucks also has a line of flavoured plant-based coffee whitners in the grocery stores now which my vegan is particularly enjoying.
Having said this, when you follow a community from mastodon, you get posts and replies all in a big jumble (readability of said jumble is up to your Masto client's implementation), and posts/comments appear as boosts from the @community user.
The other way around. You can subscribe to/follow Lemmy/Kbin communities from mastadon accounts. e.g. from mastodon you can follow @[email protected] like a regular user.
The killer app will be the ability to follow hashtags like communities from Lemmy/Kbin. Its early days.
