Reminds me of “we’re tariffing China, 125%”

China: okay, make to 200%, it doesn’t matter anymore. But no rare earths or electronics for you.

US: we meant 125% except the things we really need from you and can’t make ourselves

I know there are forbidden numbers, is it illegal to share equations which resolve to or approximate them?

I’m not an American, but how could anyone convince themselves this guy was anything but an economically illiterate buffoon?

If he wanted to bring manufacturing back to the US, the worst thing he could have done is break the relationships where they get cheap resources from us Canadians and materials like rare earths first.

Now it’s a bigger hurdle than ever to manufacture in the US.

Now we’re all galvanized against the US, we can all make deals with each other in an “the enemy of my enemy” way, and everyone is divesting of American financial leverage for fear of being extorted over it.

Is there a folding@home style of effort I can contribute disk space and bandwidth to?

I never considered the world where we invent the ability to accelerate time, and just use it for making workers work more shifts so they die even younger just to extract more value relative to those without the technology.

It probably didn’t help that Trump said foreign owned bonds were invalid and fraudulent.

SQL auto format is still mostly terrible

The only half decent format is to start from the Mozilla style and then make it more sane.

I’ve been playing with sqlglot lately and want to start using it for diffs.

I can see Ricky saying this while getting arrested

I found this debate more frustrating than illuminating.

Blatant lies like the 6 house thing had no consequences. Pollievre got to talk over people with zero consequence. Then Singh started doing the same. I don't like that the candidates all get different questions at all.

For how crappy the Ontario debates could be, I wish they had the rule that mentioning a candidate allowed them to respond, because everyone was all anti-Carney the whole time.

I actually agree about the provinces jurisdiction a lot. There's no reason we have all of our non-Quebec provinces playing the game of blaming the federal government for all of their problems, and frankly it's disgusting.

There's stuff like negotating drug prices as a nation that makes sense, but does daycare? That actually seems like it has reverse bargaining power. I want those things, but I agree with Blanchet.

I've been looking for a couple weeks for good public cloud options I can use that are not US based.

I tried OVH but my account was flagged as suspicious upon signing up so I can't use any of their public cloud services.

I just signed up for Hetzner, but I'd prefer Canadian based servers.

So today I discovered that there's a cron job that holds non-reproducible state that died, and now our system is fucked.

The cron job doesn't live inside any source control. This morning it entered a terminal state, and because it overwrites its state there's no way to revert it.

I'm currently waiting for the database rollback and have rewritten it in a reproducible/idempotent way.

Heard this song on CBC radio today and immediately loved it. It’s lights a fire in my heart, so I thought I’d share it with all of you

I haven't seen this show, but I read two articles in The Conversation about it –‘Adolescence’ on Neflix: A painful wake-up call about unregulated internet use for teens

CBC is releasing their Canada travel bucket list with Rick Mercer and Matt Galloway

I've never watched before, but having a good time so far!

Micheal Buble's opening speech was great

I switched my config files to lua. I haven’t changed my config file for almost 10 years, except for minor tweaks.

I made this sketch for my wife, but it got pressed into another charcoal drawing while I was moving stuff around.

Is eraser the best way to fix this?

Original title: The Mark Carney era begins with prime minister and new cabinet sworn in today

I don't know if it violates rules that I modified the title from the article, I've seen a lot of questions about when Carney becomes PM and my goal with this post is to increase awareness there.

I'll be watching or listening on CBC today while working.

I always save the soap bar scraps, today I got to combine them
