I doubt it. Israel is just begging for someone to retaliate, because similar to with gaza, they will use "self defense" as a pretext to escalate the conflict. And with western nations contiuing to cooperate, they will most likely get away with it again.

I'm not disputing the data. I'm questioning your beliefs on the cause of the problem and how we should go about solving it.

all left leaning parties are in on it now

You mean left leaning parties refuse to build their entire movement around using immigrants as a scapegoat for all our problems? I can scarcely believe it.

To be honest, I'm not sure if Black Bag is really much of a spy movie. There's barely any action or international intrigue, it's almost all just stuffy british dialogue. For that reason I'd call it more of a mystery/whodunnit flick that just happens to be set in a spy agency. It's definitely no Bond film, but I think it holds up pretty well for what it is. I had a good time watching it.

Yeah, 132 avenue is really critical to the provincial road network. /s

The scale of stupidity on display here is honestly humbling. He's talking about a 2-lane residential collector road. It's literally 5 blocks away from a freeway the city just spent a billion dollars expanding. Don't know how to merge? No problem! There's an 8-lane monstrosity with traffic lights 5 blocks in the other direction. As you can see, the road network in that area is already massively overbuilt. The concern over losing driving lanes/parking spots is ridiculous in general, but to try to apply it to this road is so preposterously disingenuous, it verges on parody.

I would also like to add that the province of Alberta withheld over $100M in disaster relief from Jasper because the town wouldn't commit to building single-family detached housing. Just to give you an idea of how far they're willing to go to own the urban libs.

What a hugely important message. At a time when our sovereignty is being challenged by American imperialism, we are not going to survive by slashing one of our most important public institutions for short-term gain. I'm not even sure what there would be to gain, anyway.

Yeah, if Canadians had the character to withhold their vacation dollars over the unacceptable behaviour of the US government, they would have stopped going there 20 years ago. The only difference is that now you risk being summarily thrown in a gulag even if you don't look stereotypically middle-eastern.

As an Oilers fan I'm feeling pretty anxious, the team is severely banged up, and trying to score on Kuemper this year has been an exercise in futility. McDrai will have to be at full power to pull this one off. I'm gonna say Oilers in 7, but I would also not be surprised if the Kings go on a run this year.

I might just be seeing things, but do those flight suits have flared bottoms?

Bezos has gone too far, he must be stopped.

Classic conservative governing — opting for reactionary, authoritarian solutions to problems they themselves created through deleting all of the existing preventative solutions that were 10x more effective.

Also, in the CBC article about it, there's this line: "a patient won't be able to refuse medications that the commission has decided they will take to treat their addiction." How the hell does that jive with the right to decide over all medical decisions that Smith recently amended into Alberta's constitution? I find it pretty strange that they keep writing legislation restricting who this right applies to.

Did they decide to collect data at church this morning? Or is this the fallout from the "stop the steal" thing?

Says the guy who literally gave those ultra-conservative ghouls their power when he included them in the UCP. He's the one who started this shitstorm, and now he wants to pretend he didn't call to have park paved? Frig off, cheeseburger man.

Bit of a long read, but definitely eye opening.

The scary part is, they didn't end up finding out how people's identities are being stolen, and both CRA and H&R block were somewhat hostile to the investigation.

Tax season is coming up, stay safe out there. Be very careful about who you give your personal information to, and keep a close eye on all your accounts.

I'm making a thread to discuss both games today: -13:00 EST / 10:00 PST ― CAN vs. FIN -20:00 EST / 17:00 PST ― USA vs. SWE

Team Canada news: Cale Makar is playing, Binnington gets the start.

If the first game ends in regulation, the winner will advance to the final against USA. In case it goes to overtime, the door will be open for Sweden to advance with a regulation win.

UPDATE: Matthew Tkachuk (lower body) will not play tonight, Chris Kreider will dress instead. Charlie McAvoy will also not play (I think? The article just says he will be replaced by Jake Sanderson, nothing else). Oettinger will start for USA; SWE goalie still tba.

UPDATE 2: As per Elliote Friedman just now, Mattias Ekholm and Viktor Arvidsson are out for team Sweden (rip oilers), Leo Carlsson and Rasmus Andersson are in. Linus Ullmark is expected to start.

UPDATE 3:

Results of early gameCAN 5 - 3 SWE

★ Nathan Mackinnon (2G) ★★ Connor McDavid (1G, 1A) ★★★ Mikael Granlund (2G)

Finland roared back from a 4-0 deficit with seven minutes remaining in the game, causing a spike in heart rate across Canada when they made it a 4-3 game in the final minute. Sidney Crosby released the tension with an empty-net goal a few seconds later, punching Canada's ticket to the final on Thursday. The USA vs. SWE game later today is officially for pride only.

UPDATE 4: It turns out Elliotte Friedman was wrong, because I'm sitting here watching Ekholm and Arvidsson clearly playing. Rakell and Zibanejad are the actual scratches. Brady Tkachuk has also gone down with an injury. That's rough for team USA.

FINAL UPDATE:

Late game resultsUSA 1 - 2 SWE

★ Jesper Bratt (1G) ★★ Samuel Ersson (.969 SV%) ★★★ Zach Werenski (1A)

Team USA battled hard despite a bite from the injury bug (missing Matthews, McAvoy, both Tkachuks), but ultimately fell short of the win. Sweden was able to hold on to a narrow lead thanks in large part to a stellar goaltending performance from Samuel Ersson.

Thanks for hanging out everyone, it's been fun. Someone else will have to post the game thread on Thursday, as I'm going to be busy until at least the 2nd period. I'm looking forward to joining the discussion later on when I get the chance.

Until next time, take 'er easy, buds!

Let's see if we can drum up some activity around here

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year contract extension starting in 2025-26 with an average annual value (AAV) of $14 million.

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers announced this morning they will not match contract offer sheets presented by the St. Louis Blues to forward Dylan Holloway and defenceman Philip Broberg.

As per NHL compensation guidelines, the Oilers will receive the Blues' second and third-round selections in the 2025 NHL Draft.

In a separate transaction with St. Louis, the Oilers have acquired the rights to defenceman Paul Fischer as well the Blues' third-round selection in the 2028 NHL Draft in exchange for future considerations.

Fischer is an unsigned selection from the 2023 NHL Draft (138th overall) entering his second season with Notre Dame (NCAA).

He stunned Markstrom with the intense, prolonged eye contact lmao

Effective July 1st, businesses are no longer permitted to provide new plastic shopping bags to customers. Paper bags now come with a mandatory minimum fee of $0.15 as well.

Happy waste reducing, y'all!
