It's also the primary new outlet for most of rural Canada.

Most small communities rely on news from CBC funded journalists. If the CBC disappeared then those communities would lose their reporting, and since they aren't profitable other networks won't invest.

The CBC is flawed by trying to be a business instead of a service. It's like the postal system the military or the courts. It's the only part of the federal system that aims to inform the electorate.

And rural Canada votes heavily for the CPC. They're going to vote themselves out of a useful service.
