Excuses abound when you bring up hockey.
Okay, so what alternative is there?
CHL is more Canadian
True, but CHL still has american teams, and has some ties to the NHL as well. It's not clear, from what I can see at first glance, who owns what as well.
The alternative is to not support American business. That's it. That's what this entire community is about. Do people get offended when you suggest they give up Amazon? Sure they do. Should they give up Amazon. Fucking right they should. Is Hockey a necessity now?
If you have a problem with skill levels then that's your issue not mine. There are tons of options for watching hockey. How do I know? I used to operate a four sheet ice arena in a huge Canadian hockey city. It was busy every day, all day all year round. All skill levels and the cool thing about skill level is the more recognition players get the more they want to be better. The more they improve. Funny how that is. Support minior leagues and they get better. And perhaps you learn to understand the sport you supposedly love better.
Excuses. can't possibly change. My kids gave up KD and Peanut Butter and they're 10. They get it.
I thought the community was about supporting the Buy Canadian movement? I'm sorry but you haven't really given an alternative solution to do so, you've only said "don't watch the NHL" which this person said they don't do in a way that the Americans can monetize. You suggest watching minor leagues, but many of those minor leagues are also in bed with the NHL (AHL, ECHL, CHL) for funding and farm teams, so should we be excluding those minor leagues as well from the list?
The point they're trying to make is that you have come in here with these demands but no alternative solutions. Did you also make your kids give up all TV and movie entertainment because most is produced in the US? This sort of attack on someone already trying their best is going to drive people away from the cause. What was the shitty AI otter on Lemmy yesterday saying about "stop tearing down your allies because they aren't as intense as you"?
No demands. Questions.
I haven't made my kids give up anything. They have done it on their own because their parents are doing it. You know setting an example as parents should. And yes they've given up American media. By choice not demand. No fascists in this house.
Options exist. I only challenged one of them. The NHL. Lots of other options out there and hockey fans such as this one are well aware of their options as seen in the post reply.
They also say nothing about limiting their American input.
